IMPROVEMENT IN COMBINED PENQIL HOLDER AND SHARPENER.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 196,676, dated October 30, 1877; application filed March 15, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
' Be it known that I, EZRAB. LAKE, of Bricksburg, in the county of Ocean and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Combined Pencil Holder and Sharpener and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification, in which Figures 1 and 4: are longitudinal vertical sections of my invention; Fig. 2, a side elevation and Fig. 3 a detail perspective.
My invention consists'of a tube having one end open and holding at the other a file or grater, by means of which the point of a pencil may be reduced or sharpened, said tube also serving as a'sheath or protector for said point when the pencil is not in use.
In the accompanying drawing, A designates a metal tube, open at a. At its other end is fastened a file or grater, B, said file being inserted in a slot, a, cut in the tube, the metal of the latter on either side of said slot being lapped or pinched over the back of the file, as shown at a in Fig. 3; or said file 0r grater may be made in the form shown in Fig. 4, being less wide than deep, and simply pressed into a narrow slot in the tube A.
