Description

C. JARECKI. LocK-c'oczzs.
No. 195,611. Patented sept. z5. 1877.

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES JARECKI, 0F ERIE, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN LOCK-COCKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 195,611., dated September 25, 1877; application filed August 30, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES JAEEGKI, of Erie, in the county of Erie, and in the State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lock-Cocks; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a lock-cock, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of myinvention, and Fig. 2 is a section ofthe same.
A represents the body, and B the plug, of the cock, constructed in any of the 'known and usual Ways. The plug B is provided with a handle, G, formed on or fastened to it in any suitable manner. On the under side of' this handle is formed'a box or bearing, d, in which is placed a bolt, D, which enters a` mortise, a, formed on the body A of the cock. In the drawing I have shown four of these mortises, equidistant from each other.
The bolt D is pressed inward by means of a spiral spring, b, surrounding the same between the box d and a pin, e, passed through the bolt near the outer end, as shown. The bolt D is further provided with a thumb-piece, D', so arranged as to be convenient to be operated by the thumb when grasping the handle C.
G is a lock, the hasp of which is passed through a hole in the handle, and a hole or eye formed in the end of the bolt, and thereby prevents the cock being opened without removing the lock.
I do not confine myself to the employment of four mortises, a a, in the body A of the cock, as the cock only needs to be locked when closed; but l prefer to have them as shown, so that it can be locked on whichever side it may be more convenient when on the pipes.
The spring b on the bolt is not essential, as the bolt can easily be pressed by hand into the mortise. It is also unnecessary to have the lock pass both through the handle andthe hole in the end of the bolt. The same purpose can be accomplished by only having the bolt come near the hole in the handle. When the padlock is put on the handle the hasp of the lock will then prevent the bolt from being withdrawn.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a stop-cock, the combination, with the body A and plug B, of the handle C projecting from the plug and provided with the sliding bolt D, one or more mortises, a, formed on the body A, and a lock, Gr, all substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing] have hereunto set my hand this 18th day oi August, 1877.
CHARLES JARECKI.
