This invention relates to new and useful improvements in garments and has for the primary object the provision of a device of the above stated character especially adapted '5 to protect and prevent male and female pering garment and thereby increase the sale of such articles and obviate any objection to wearing the device on account of the appearance thereof or feeling of discomfort therefrom.

A further object of this invention is the provision of a garment of the above stated character, which will be simple, durable and efficient, and which may be manufactured and sold at a comparatively low cost.

WVith these and other objects in view as will become more apparent as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.

For a complete understanding of my invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings in which:

Referring in detailto the drawings, the numeral 1 indicates a garment in the form of knee trousers or trunks including the waist portion 2 and leg portions 3. The portion 2 at the upper edge is provided with a casing 4 to slidably receive a strap or belt 5 and the latter has loops 6 at the ends thereof to which is secured or tied fastening strings or cords 7 whereby the garment may be firmly secured about the waist of a person. The garment 1 at the front thereof and about the crotch 8 is provided with a fly-opening 9 adapted to be closed by a lacing string 10. The lacing string 10 is laced through a plurality of open ings 11 arranged in the garment 1 as clearly shown in Figure 7 and tied at the upper end of the fly opening. Auxiliary tying strings or cords 11 are provided and after the strings or cords 7 and lacing cords 10 are securely tied, the-auxiliary cords are wrapped and tied tightly about said cords 10 and 7 to prevent a person from releasing the belt 5 and lacing cords 10 when asleep or partly asleep and consequently prevent a person from placing the hands on the inside of the garment. The leg portions 3 of the garment 1 are provided with casings 12 similar to the casing 4 to receive leg encircling elements 13 similar in construction to the belt 5 and which are provided with tying cords or strings 14 wherebythe legportions may be tightly secured around the legs of the wearer and thereby prevent the wearer from placing the hand inside of the garment by way of the lower end of the leg portions. A reinforcing strip 15 is secured to the front of the garment 1 and is reinforced at the corners thereof by tabs 16 and are provided with lacing eyelets or openings 17 to receive lacing or tying strings or cords 11 for securing a shield or protector 18 inside of the garment 1. The shield 18 is provided with openings or eyelets to receive the lacing cords or strings 11 whereby the shield may be applied and removed from the garment when desired. The shield 18 has a cut-away portion 19 adapted to receive the crotch 8 of the garment 1 and directly above said cut away portion the shield is offset outwardly as at 20 to receive the organs of the wearer. The shield or protector 18. may be constructed from any material suitable for the purpose and preferably heaiw canvas or leather so that the wearer cannot handle the organs from the outside of the garment.

WVith the garment applied to a person in the manner heretofore described it will be seen that it will be impossible for the wearer to place the hands inside of the garment when asleep or partly asleep and also prevent the wearer from handling the organs from the exterior of the garment.

Referring to my modified form of invention as shown in Figure 8, the garment 1 is provided with a plurality of ventilation open ings 21 to prevent over-heating of the part of the anatomy inclosed or protected by the J shield 18 and the garment may be provided with a plurality of slots 22 for the purpose of passing strips or adhesive tape 23 as shown in Figure 9 through the garment and adhering to the person as well as the garment for firmly securing the garment tightly about the desired part of the anatomy.

The garment heretofore described may be easily and conveniently worn by a person under the usualsleeping garment without any inconvenience or discomfort. It is to be understood that the auxiliary tying cords are firmly knotted about the tying cords 7 and 14 rendering it necessary to sever them when desiring to remove the garment.

Referring to my modified form of inven tion as shown in Figures 10 to 13 inclusive, the garment 24 is in the form of a shirt portion 25 formed integrally with the trouser portion 26 and is provided with the usual sleeves 27 and neck portion 28 while the trouser portion is provided with the leg portions 29 and crotch 30. The front of the shirt 25 is open from the neck portion 28 through the shirt portion into the trouser portion as clearly shown in Figure 10 and adapted to be closed by a quick fastener 31, commercially known as the zipper fastener whereby the shirt portion and trouser portion may be easily and quickly opened and closed for the purpose of applying and removing the garment from a person. The neck portion 28 is provided with a casing 31 to receive a neck encircling element similar in construction to the belt 5 whereby the shirt may be tightly secured about the neck of the wearer and the tying strings or cords 7 after being knotted together may be also passed through the loops of the fastener 31 preventing a person from opening the shirt portion 25 either in the front thereof or at the neck when asleep or partly asleep. The trouser portion 26 is provided with the reinforcing material 15 as in the form of my invention shown in Figure 1 and has the usual apertured tabs 16 for securing the shield 18 inside of the garment 24. The end of the leg portions 29 is provided with casings 32 to receive limb encircling elements 13 as shown in Figure 5 of the drawings whereby the trouser portion may be firmly secured about the legs of the wearer.

A belt 33 may form a part of the garment 2 1 as shown in Figures 10 and 12 and has the apertured free ends 34 to receive lacing cords or strings for the purpose of drawing the garment tightly about the wearer.

Referring to my modified form of invention as shown in Figure 14 the reinforcing strip 35 similar to the reinforcing strip 15 may be stitched or otherwise permanently secured to the garment as shown at 36.

Referring to my modified form of invention as shown in Figure 15, a belt or waist band 37 has its ends secured together by a tying cord or string 38 whereby the device may be firmly secured about the waist of a wearer. The band or belt 37 has a guard or shield 39 secured thereto and the latter is adapted to pass between the legs of the wearer and has its front portion offset as shown at 10 to receive the organ, and is provided with a plurality of ventilation openings 41 to prevent over-heating. The element 39 may be constructed from any material suitable for the purpose such as canvas or leather and is provided with leg encircling elements 12 which have their ends secured together by tyin strings or cords 43. The front portion of the element 39 may have the edges thereof further secured to the wearer by employing the adhesive strips 23 as shown in Figure 9. The device shown in Figure 15 and heretofore described may be the purpose of worn under the usual sleeping garments now employed.

Referring to my modified form of invention as shown in Figures 16 and 17, the garment 4:4 is somewhat similar to the garment shown in Figures and 12 except the shirt portion thereof is provided with a flap 4L5 stitched along one edge to the shirt portion and is adapted to overlie the opening in the shirt and trouser portion and detachably secured upon the opposite side by buttons 46. With the flap secured in position as shown in Figure 16, the garment will be given the appearance of an ordinary sleeping garment known as pajamas having the collar 47 at the neck portion. A tying string or cord 48 may be employed in the shirt portion adjacent to the neck portion and the opening in the shirt and when passed through the fastening element A9 and tied together firmly secures the shirt portion of the garment about the wearer and is hidden from view and also protected from a persons hands by the flap 45.

Suitable stays (not shown) may be secured in the shirt and front of the trouser portion of the garment for the purpose of stiffening the garment if desired and which will not interfere with the comfort of the wearer L when asleep.

My device embodies a construction that prevents handling certain parts of the anatomy, but will allow perfect freedom of the hands and arms.

WVhile I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it will be understood that minor changes in construction, combination and arrangement of parts may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:

1. A garment comprising trousers including a waist portion having a crotch with a flyopening extending through the waist portion and a pair of leg portions forming an integral part of the waist portion, said waist portion having eyelets arranged adjacent the fly-opening, a securing string laced through the eyelets and tied at the upper edge of the waist portion, and a semi-rigid protecting plate secured to the inner face of the waist portion and overlying the fiy-opening and i: having a notch to receive the crotch and projecting into the leg portions.

2. A garment comprising trousers including a waist portion having a crotch with a fly-opening extending through the waist portion and a pair of leg portions forming an integral part of the waist portion, said waist portion having eyelets arranged adjacent the fly-opening, a securing string laced through the eyelets and tied at the upper edge of the waist portion, and a semi-rigid protecting plate detachably secured to the inner face of the waist portion and overlying the fly-opening and having a notch to receive the crotch and projecting into the leg portions.

3. A garment comprising trousers including a waist portion having a crotch with a flyopening extending through the waist portion and a pair of leg portions forming an integral part of the waist portion, said waist portion having eyelets arranged adjacent the flyopening, a securing string laced through the eyelets and tied at the upper edge of the waist portion, and a semi-rigid protecting plate positioned against the inner face of the waist portion and extending across the fly-opening and having openings adjacent the corners thereof, said waist portion having openings, and securing strings passed through the openings of the protectmg plate and the last named openings of the waist portion and tied to removably secure the protecting plate to the waist portion.

4:. A garment comprising trousers including a waist portion having a crotch with a fly-opening extending through the waist portion and a pair of leg portions forming an integral part of the waist portion, said waist portion having eyelets arranged adjacent the fiy-opening, a securing string laced through the eyelets and tied at the upper edge of the waist portion, a semi-rigid protecting plate positioned against the inner face of the waist portion and extending across the fly-opening, said plate and waist portion having aligning slots, and adhesive tape passed through the slots and cemented to the waist portion and the wearer.
