Abstract

A one-piece garment or suit of composition material, e.g. heavy gauge fabric covered with plastic or rubberized compound for use particularly by motorcyclists. The garment is roomy enough to allow the wearer to don and remove it readily. A slide fastener front is provided and the collar has snap fasteners. The sleeves also have slide fasteners running approximately 6 inches from the wrist cuff. The legs have a flared cuff to permit easy access and include small flaps and snaps for folding and securing about the ankle. The waist includes an adjustable belt of the same fabric as the garment spanning the back but free at the front. Optionally elbow and knee protectors made of cushion pockets filled with air or foam rubber are provided of more durable material than the body of the garment which are removably carried and held in place by elastic bands, or such protectors may line the entire garment.

It is intended to protect'the wearer from the elements and is provided with a slide fastener front terminating in an adjustable sized collar intended to be secured with close fit aboutthe wearers neck by useof snap fasteners. The sleeves also are equipped with slide fasteners running approximately 6 inches from the wrist cuff to provide a snug fit at the wrist. The legs have flared bottoms to allow easy donning and, thereafter may be folded or pleated to secure a close fit about the ankles and secured in place as by snap fasteners. An adjustable belt is provided at the back waist region, but free of the front. Optionally, elbow and knee protectors are provided which are of more durable material than the body of the garment. These protectors have internally formed cushions of air or foam rubber and are secured in place as by elastic'bands.

Principal objects and features of this invention are aone piece garment useful particularly by motorcyclists, that may be readily donned by the prospective wearer over usual outer clothing if desired which provides protection against the elements and which has adjustable collar, wrist and ankle closures to insure close fits at such regions and which is optionally also eq..ipped with elbow and knee guards as added protection for the wearer against skid falls or the like.

Other objects and features of the invention are the provision of a garment of this character that is effective for its intended protective purposes, relatively cheap to manufacture and adjustable at its neck, waist, wrist and ankle regions to fit wearers ofdiffering sizes.

portion of a DETAILED DESCRIPTION Referring to the drawings the garment G embodying the invention is of one piece construction'being preferably made of heavy gauze fabric F coated with a waterproofing compound C such as plastic or rubberized material. This garment includesa torso portion 10 opening at its front and being closable by a slide fastener 11 extending vertically from the lower front waist region to the collar 12. The collar I2 comprises a band having fastening means such as a snap fastener securer I3 and spaced snap fasteners 14 so that the girth of the collar may be accommodated to fit the wearer. The sleeves I5 extending from the torso portion I0 terminate in wrist cuffs 16 which may be of elastic material to fit closely about the wearer's wrists. These sleeves have longitudinally disposed slide fasteners 17 extending for about 6 inches from the wrist j 2 cuffs 16 which permit ready opening to facilitate closing or removal of the garment.

A decorative seam 18 extends longitudinally of the torso portion in its back portion, and an adjustable belt 19 of conventional construction which spans the rear waist portion of the garment.

The leg portions 20 are integral with the torso portion 10 and terminate at their lower ends in bell bottom shape located in the wearers ankle regions. These bell bottomed ends are provided with adjustable bands 21 equipped with a snap securer 22 and spaced-apart snap fasteners 23 so that the bell bottomed ends may be pleated and their bands 21 tightened to fit the foldedor pleated ends snugly about the'wearers ankles.

Optionally, as seen in FIGS..6 and 7, a knee protector may be provided internally of the leg portions 20 of the garment in the region of the wearer's knees. Such knee protector 24 may comprise an elastic band 25 provided on at least one of its faces with a plurality of independently spaced, confined air pockets 26. These protectors 24 may be mounted over the wearer's knees independently prior to donning of the garment and its confinedair pockets 26 serve to provide pneumatic protective cushions for the wearer's knees. Optionally, the protectors 24 may be secured permanently to the garment in any conventional way internally of the leg portions 20 in the knee regions thereof, as illustrated in FIG. 7. Similar elbow protectors may be provided to protect the wearers elbows.

In an alternative embodiment as seen in FIGS. 8 and 9, external elbow and knee protectors 27 may be provided for both elbows and knees on .the exterior respectively of the sleeves l5 and leg portions 27. These protectors comprise outer members 28 of wear-resisting material provided internally with individual closed air cushions 29, also optionally filled with resilient porous cushioning means as of foam rubber 30 or the like. Expansible elastic bands 31 join the ends of members 28 to forma ring that may be slipped over the outer surfaces of sleeves 15 or leg portions 20 over the elbow or knee regions and maintained in place by elastic bands 31. Optionally, bands 3! may be permanently secured in place on the respective sleeves and leg portions at required locations.

In donning the garment B, the slide fasteners 11 and 17 are moved to open positions and

13, 22 on collar and bell bottom cuff regions uncoupled. The garment is then easily donned, the bell bottoms'making it easy to insert the feet. Thereafter, the slide fasteners 11 and 17 are moved to closed position, the collar band 12 adjusted to desired snug fit on the neck of the'wearer and its snap securedly engaged on the appropriate snap fastener 14. Similarly, the bell bottoms are folded or wrapped about the wearers ankles to insure snug fit and snap securers 22 engaged in the appropriate snap fasteners 23. The belt 19 may then be tightened up as desired by the wearer.

Removal of the garment G is equally easy, the snap securers being freed from their snap fasteners and the slide fasteners moved to open condition.

The one-piece garment hereinabove described thus provides an effective protective garment for a wearer such as a motorcyclist, providing snug fits at collar, ankles and wrists and protection against the elements, and is readily donned for use or removed after use with a minimum of manipulation. Also, wear and cushioning protection are. provided at the knee and elbow regions most to receive to receive injury or excessive wear.

If desired, the air pocket cushioning means shown in FIGS. 6 and 7 or the porous filler material shown in FIGS. 8 and 9 may be provided as linings for the entire inner surfaces of all portions thereof to provide protective cushioning for the entire body of the wearer when the garment is worn.

What I claim is:

I. A protective element-proof garment, readily donned or removed from the wearer, comprising a. a one-piece body enclosing fabric covered with a waterproofing material,

Claims

1. A protective element-proof garment, readily donned or removed from the wearer, comprising a. a one-piece body enclosing fabric covered with a waterproofing material, b. including integral torso, collar, sleeve and leg portions, c. slide fasteners located vertically on the front torso portion of said garment and located longitudinally on the wrist portions of the sleeves of said garment, d. an adjustable collar having a neckband and a plurality of snap fasteners for securing said band in an adjusted position for a snug fit at the wearer'' s neck, e. bell bottom foldable cuffs on the leg portions and having bands on said cuffs and a plurality of snap fasteners for securing said bands in an adjusted position for snug fit at the wearer'' s ankles, and f. cushioning protectors located at selected regions on said garment, said cushioning protectors being comprised of wearresisting material provided on at least one face thereof with a plurality of confined, independently spaced, closed air pockets.

2. A protective element-proof garment according to claim 1, further including expansible elastic bands which form a ring in conjunction with the wear-resisting material.
