' 1 Claim. (01. 2-48) This invention relates to utility garments and more especially'to, a: protective garment combining features of aprons and overalls.

An object of the invention is, to provide a simple, practical and inexpensive utility garment of the character described.

Another object of the invention is tov provide a. garment of the overalls type. having improved and simplified features pertaining to the mode of putting on and removal.

Another object of the invention is to provide an improved overalls type of garment having simplified construction and economy in the requirement of necessary material.

An additional object is to provide a slip-on type of utility garment which can be quickly applied over conventional garb and worn without any discomfort.

A further object is to provide an improved slipon type of garment combining features of aprons and overalls incorporating adjustable fastening means and hookless fasteners.

Other objects and advantages will appear and be brought out more fully in the following specification considered with reference to the accompanying drawings throughout which like parts are designated by like numerals.

This invention, which incorporates features found both in aprons and overalls, combines the desirable features of the same but lacks numerous disadvantages thereof. Such disadvantages, such as are generally inherent in conventional overalls, include the difficulty of putting them on and taking them off due to the conventional trouser or leg portion construction thereof and include the rear body portion which has side edge portions which meet with corresponding portions of the front thereof together with the fixed shoulder straps and clasps, the straps being sewed or otherwise fixed to the center of the back portions. These disadvantages are more apparent, as is well known, particularly when putting on and removing the garment, especially over street or conventional clothing due to the folding or crumbling of the trouser portion of the under garment. The presentv invention overcomes these objections by providing a garment having a full length front body portion and a pair of leg portions each slit at the side forming meeting, edges which may be secured together by fasteners preferably of the hookless. fastener type, the garment having supporting means at the shoulders comprising a pair of short cords which are passed through eyelets or loops at the upper side portions of the garment and readily tied across the back after the manner of an apron. The particular structure and mode of use of the garment is more fully set forth in the following description, considered in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein like parts are referred to by like numerals.

Referring more particularly to the drawings I show a garment comprised of a pair of similar pieces I0 and l I, each having a front body portion l2 and a leg portion I3, the body portions having adjacent edges I4 secured together in a seam from the top to a point indicated at I5, edge portions 14a being unconnected.

Each of pieces or members Ill and II has an outer side edge portion IE and IBa, edge portions it being formed with a seam and extending to the top, edge portions Ilia being formed with a strip of hookless fasteners I! which extend throughout the length of leg portion I3 of the piece. Each leg portion I3 has an edge I8 formed with a strip of hookless fasteners I9 complementary to strip I1, a slider 20 being provided therefor, as shown.

The top of the garment is formed with a stitch or seam ZI to which is secured a pair of shoulder straps or cords 22 which may be passed over the shoulders and across the back of the wearer, as shown in Figure 2, and drawn through loops or eyelets 23 formed at the outer edges of body portions I2. If desired, these eyelets 23 may be formed with reinforcing devices, such as grommets, to prevent undue Wear or tearing of the garment material. One or more Dockets 24 or 25 may be suitably applied to the garment, as shown.

The garment may be readily worn or applied to the body of a wearer over conventional or street clothing by merely passing the shoulder straps over the shoulders, crossing them across the back, drawing through eyelets 23 and tying, as shown in Figure 2. Thereupon, the leg portions I3 are each wrapped around one leg of the wearer and edges I8 secured to edges Ilia by joining the strips of hookless fasteners I! and I9 using the slider 28. The garment is then in readiness for use and it will be apparent that extreme simplicity in design and method of attachment are achieved.

The garment is seen as having an open back portion, indicated at 2B, the elimination of the use of the back portion resulting in an economy of material where it is ordinarily not needed and the garment, as provided by my invention as shown, afiords complete protection to the front of the user as well as complete protection for the leg portions where protection by a utility garment is desirable.

Although I have herein shown and described my invention in what I have conceived to be the most practical and Preferred embodiment, it is recognized that departures may be made therefrom within the scope of my invention, which is not to be limited to the details disclosed herein but is to be accorded the full scope of the claim so as to embrace any and all equivalent devices and systems.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

A garment comprising a trapezoidal bib portion, an abdominal portion of trapezoidal shape but having a lesser flare than the bibportion, said abdominal portion having eye means at its upper marginal edges, right and left halves of said abdominal portion seamed along a median vertical line terminating in a curved crotch line, leg wraps each secured to the abdominal portion and having an upper margin continuous with said curved crotch line, outer marginal edges of the leg Wraps lying in a dorsiventral plane and being vertically in alignment with the outer edges of the abdominal portion as worn, inner marginal edges of the leg wraps and said outer edges thereof being contiguously joinable by slide fastener elements, and a pair of uniform continuous suspender back and tie straps secured at one of their respective ends at each top corner of the bib portion adapted to be crossed over the shoulders and back of the wearer, thence slidably through the respectively opposite eye means and tied at the back.
