"RALPH E. LEE, OF NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA, ASSIGN'OR TO THE E. V. BENJAMIN COMPANY, INC., TRADING AS MAGINNIS COTTON MILLS, OF NEW ORLEANS, LOUISI- ANA, A CORPORATION OF LOUISIANA.
OVERALL GARMENT.
Application filcdnpril 5, 1928. SerialNo. 267,650. 7 The invention relates to new and useful imoverall garment consisting of a body portion 55 provements in garments, and more partlcu- 1, having a waist band 2. Extending diagolarly to the pocket construction of an Overall nally from the waist band 2 to the side garment. seam 3 ofthe overall is a pocket opening,
- An object of the invention is to provide a which liesalong the line wzr ofv Fig. 1. At
construction of pocket for an overall garment the pocket opening the outer section 4 of so which is very strong and well supported, and the body of the overall overlies the inner secwherein the edges of the body portion of the tion 5 of the overall. The pocket is indicated garment atthe pocket opening and also the at 6 and includes an inner section 7 and an 10 edges of the pocket are inturned and conouter section 8. The pocket material is prefcealed in the seam joining the pocket to the erably folded so that the inner section is 65 garment. joined to the outer section of the pocket from In the drawings, Figure 1 is a front view the point a to the point 6 by a folding of the of a portion of an overall garment having the material, thus forming an integral connecimprovement embodied therein. tion. From the point Z) to the point 0 the Fig. 2 is a sectional view, more or less dlafabric sections forming the pocket are joined 70 grammatic, on the line 22 of F 1g. 1. by edge covering stitches, and may also be The invention is directed to a pocket conjoined by through and through stitches. struction for an overall garment, and more From the point a to the point (Z the pocket is particularly to the construction of the side secured to the waist band 2 by the lines of pockets ofthe garment. The body portion stitching along the bottom portion of the 75 of the garment is provided with a pocket waist band. The pocket includes front overall, and is secured therein by parallel and rear sections which are joined to the lines of stitching 10,10. The invention is two sections together. The inturning of the particularly directed to the construction of pocket section and the inturning of the fabric the pocket which joins the inner section of section and stitching through the same form 45 the pocket to the body portion along the rib structures which extend all along the pocket opening. By inturning the edge porpocket opening and into the waist bandseam tions and stitching through said inturned at theupper end and into the side seam at portions by parallel lines of stitching a very the lower end. By this construction the raw strong and durable supportis made for the edges of the material forming the garment 50 pocket and the edges of the material are conand the pocket section are concealed, and a cealed from view both at the pocket entrance very strong support for the pocket is proand on the inside of the garment. vided.
Referring more in detail to the drawings: It is well known that mechanics often place The invention is shown as applied to an heavy tools and the like which they are using in the side pockets of the overall garment, which subjects the pocket to heavy strains. By my improved construction, however, the
pocket is so Well supported that the support does not give away to this excessive loading of the pocket.
It will be understood, of course, that minor changes in the details of construction and arrangement of the parts may be made Without departing from the spirit of the invention as set forth in the appended claim.
Having fully described my invention, What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
An overall garment comprising a body portion having side pocket openings extending diagonally from the Waist band of the overall to the side seam of the same, a pocket including inner and outer sections joined along their inner edges, said outer section extending into and secured by a hem fold in the outer fabric section at the pocket opening and said inner section of said pocket having its edge inturned and placed against the inner face of the inner fabric section at the pocket opening, said edge of the inner fabric section being inturned and secured to the pocket section by parallel lines of stitching passing through the inturned edge portion of the overall and the int-urned edge portion of the pocket, said hem fold in the outer fabric section and said int'urned edge of the inner fabric section extending into and secured by the Waist band seam at their upper ends and into and secured by the side seam at their lower ends. V
In testimony whereof, I affix my signature.
