CONSTANTINE D. JIANAS, OF KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI.
TABLE-SERVICE DEVICE.
Application filed November 22, 1923.
My invention relates to a table service device embodying racks, rotary tables, etc., upon which may be assembled in convenient form menus cruets, napkins and other table accessories, and my object is to provide a new, useful and ornamental device of this character which may be employed to ad vantage for both domestic and public uses.
In order that the invention may be fully understood, reference will now be made to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 is a side elevation of the device with a number of articles in position thereon for table use.
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the device.
Fig. 3 is a detail plan view of a cup with means for holding a vase in position therein.
Fig. 4 is a detail cross section on line 20 IV-IV of Fig. 5.
Fig. 5 is a plan view of the device with the upper portion of the shaft in section.
Fig. 6 is across section on line VIVI of Fig. 2.
Referring now in detail to the various parts, 2 designates a base from which a vertical shaft 4 projects.
6 designates a bell provided with a plurality of tappets 8 with integral handles projecting radially from beneath said bell, so that the same may be actuated from any side of the table upon which the device is placed. The bell 6 is supported by a sleeve 10 mounted upon the lower portion of the shaft 4 and provided at its threaded upper end with a nut 12 for holding the bell 6 in position.
14 designates a rotary table provided with depending handles 16 and a plurality of depressions 18 which latter are in the upper surface of the table 14 for the purpose of holding cruets A and other table accessories. The rotary table 14 is journaled upon a bearing 20 secured to the shaft 4 by suitable means such as a set screw 22. A nut 24 threaded into the upper portion of the bearing 20 and overlapping the hub of the retary table 14 is employed to retain said table upon the bearing 20.
26 designates a pair of brackets formed integral with Or otherwise fixedly mounted upon a centrally-disposed.hub 28 journaled upon the shaft 4 and supported above the Serial No. 676,274.
rotary table 14 by a collar 30 secured to said shaft by suitable means suchv as a set screw 32.
The brackets 26 are provided at their outer ends with racks 34 adapted to hold such articles as menu cards, etc. Each rack slopes upwardly and inwardly and is of V- form in plan view, the two wings 36 thus provided being connected at their lower ends by a ledge 37 upon which a menu card may rest, the wings 36 serving as a support for the back of the menu card. The upper portion of each rack 34 is provided with a clamp 38 for holding a bill of fare or menu card in addition to that held by each rack 34. Each clamp 38 comprises a fixed jaw 40 integral or otherwise secured to the associate rack 34, a movable jaw 42, springs 44 for pressing the jaw 42 towards the jaw 40, and set screws 48 threaded into the fixed jaw 40 and extending freely through the movable jaw 42 which has a handle 50 whereby it may be lifted from the jaw 40 to admit the upper edge of a bill of fare or menu card.
In addition to the brackets 26, the hub 28 is provided with a pair of oppositely extending arms 52 upon which triangular shaped shelves 54 are removably mounted and adapted to support napkins B or other table accessories. The arms 52 are of dovetail shape in cross section and fit int-o corresponding grooves 55 in the undersides of the shelves 54 and are provided with set screws 56 for firmly securing said shelves 54 in position.
58 designates a cup threaded or otherwise secured to the upper end of the shaft 4. The lower end of said cup 58 rests upon a nut 60 loosely embracing the shaft 4 and threaded into the upper end of the hub 28 to hold the same down upon the collar 30. The cup 58 in addition to serving as a holder for paper napkins or other table accessories, is provided with segments 62 removably secured to the bottom of the cup by suitable means such as screws 64. The segments 62 are adapted to fit over the base of a vase A and firmly secure the lower portion thereof in the cup. The vase C not only serves as an ornament but may be utilized for holding flowers or other embellishments.
From the foregoingdescription it is apparentthat I have provided a device on which a relatively large number of table accessories may be assembled for use, the table 14 and the racks 3st being rotatable to bring the articles thereon within convenient reach, while the hell 6 serves as a signal in calling a waiter to serve the patrons at the table.
While I have shown and described the preferred construction, combination and arrangement of parts, I reserve the right to make such changes as properly fall within the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
Having thus described my inventioin what ,eoa
I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patl5 ent is:
In a device of the character described a base a shaft extending upwardly from said base, a hub rotatably mounted upon said shaft, upwardly and inwardly sloping brackets projecting from said hub, racks carried by said brackets and provided at their upper portions with fixed clamp jaws, and spring pressed clainp jaws arranged to cooperate with said fixed jaws.
In testimony whereof I a'liix my signature.
