To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ALBERT Psorrn, a citizen of Poland, residing at Fulton, in the county of Oswego and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Candlesticks, of which the following is a specification.

The primary object of the invention is the provision of a small and inexpensive means for holding an article such as a candle in different positions, such as attached to a Christmas tree, positioned upon a flat support or embedded within soft material such as earth.

A further object of the invention is to provide a candle holder readily positioned upon the branch of a tree or embedded in the ground at the foot thereof, the device being reversible serving as a standard or candle stick for mounting upon a table or similar support.

With these general objects in view, the invention consists of the novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described in connection with the accompanying drawing and in. which like ref erence characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views.

My invention is primarily designed for securing a candle in upright position and is readily reversible for mounting the candle upon a table or securing the same to a cylindrical member such as the branch of a Christmas tree. The invention as illustrated in Fig. 1 is detachably secured upon a branch 10 with the candle 11 positioned thereabove while in Fig. 3, the candle is supported upon a table 12 by means of my device when reversed.

A pan 13 has one handle 14 of a pair of pincers secured to the bottom 15 of the pan,

a companion handle 16 being pivoted as at 17 to the handle 14. Toothed jaws 18 projecting from the handles lat and 16 are normally held closed by means of a spring 19, whereby the device is readily mounted upon a limb 10 or other substantially cylindrical member in a manner readily apparent in Fig. 1 of the drawing. A plate 20 within the pan 13 has a projecting barb 21 for insertion in the candle 11 while a hinged finger 22 engages the opposite side of the candle under the influence of the spring 23 for maintaining the candle 11 upright centrally positioned within the pan 13.

The jaws 18 are sharpened or pointed permitting the pincers to be thrust into any soft material such as the earth or ground at the base of a Christmas tree, the pan 13 serving for receiving the molten wax as the candle 11 becomes melted when lighted.

By reversing the device and seating the pan 13 with its flaring rim 24 upon the table 12, the pincers will extend upwardly and the candle 11 being gripped by the jaws 18, the candle is held upright in its operative position as illustrated in Fig. 3. The complete operation of the invention as a candle holder will be fully understood from this detailed description thereof, it being noted that the device is not restricted to the holding of candles but other articles may also be held by the device by placing other articles within the pan 24: as positioned in Fig. 1 or engaged by the jaws 18 as shown in Fig. 3. While the form of the invention herein set forth is believed preferable, it will be understood that changes therein may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention.

WVhat is claimed as new is:

1. A holder comprising a pan-shaped member adapted for receiving articles to be held when in one position and for resting upon a support when reversed, and a pair of pincers projecting substantially axially from the bottom of said pan member adapted for detachable engagement with an article when the device is in use.

2. A reversible holder comprising a pan, a plate positioned therein, a barb projecting from one side of the plate, a spring pressed finger upon the bottom of the pan adapted for engaging an object positioned upon said barb and a pair of pincers extending out finger upon the bottom of the pan adapted for engaging an object positioned upon said barb, a pair of pincers upon the bottom of the pan opposite said plate having spring 10 pressed serrated jaws adapted for detachable mounting upon a support during the use of the device.
