- My invention relatesto umbrella and hat racks and has fo'r'its'objectsto'provide a which may be deposited therein' from wet umbrellas orgarments.
I Other objects are to provide an umbrella and hat rack which is i of sturdy and simple construction and in which the hat rack may be telescopedinto the umbrella rack when not-in use? A These objects, and other advantageous ends which will appear hereinafter, I attain in the following manner, reference being had-- lected positions by the setscre w in clamp 16; Figure 1 is a topplan. view of an umbrella T it being understood that one or more spring and hat rack embodying my invention, and latches, of the same type as are used to hold to the accompanying drawings'in' which Figure 2 a' vertical cross-sectional View of same, taken substantially on line 22 on Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a perspective view of an em bodiment of my invention, showing same in use,
Figure 4 a bottom plan view of the base of the rack shown in Figure 3, and
Figure 5 a fragmentary vertical cross-sectional view of the dGVlCG shown 1n Flgure 3, I
drawn to an enlarged scale.
Referring now more in detail to the draw: ings, the device is provided with a base 10 which is preferably cast in some ornamental central tube 15 by being welded or otherwise secured to a clamp 16 fixed to the tube and designed to represent the sliding ferrule found at this point in umbrellas. The'lower end of tube 15 extends through base 10 and has a nut 17 threaded thereon in such a manner that tube 15 holds body part 13, diaphragm 12 and base 10 in fixed relation to one another. 1
The portion of tube 15 disposed within extensionll is provided with a plurality of small openings 18 adapted to drain water from extension 11 into a receptacle 19 remoV- 1927.; Serial No; 95,175.
ably secured to the underside ofn base Receptacle 19,1nay be secured tobase 10 in any mew-91.
suitable manner.but'Ihave.illustr'ated-itas being'supported ontwofixedlugs 20' and a spring lug 21, assh'own in Figure 4. Spring lug 21 has been shown as having a spring porto base 10-; "thetwo lugs 20 and spring lug A rod 24 is'slidably mounted in the upper tion 22 which terminates in a flange 23 secured end of tube 15 and adaptedto be held in seumbrellas in open position, may 'be mounted in rod 24 and replace the set screw. The upper end of rod 24 is provided with a plurality of hooks 25, for supporting hats and wraps,
and an ornament 26, which preferably represents the handle of an umbrella, is secured to the upper end of rod 24 in order to give the stand a finished appearance.
In order to further give the device the appearance of an umbrella, I provide a series of smallprojeotions 27 ,extending from the upper edge of the body part at the points which would be normally occupied by ribs in an ordinary umbrella, and these projec ti ons may be utilized for suspending overshoes, or other small articles, on the edge of the body part. j i
Umbrellas placed in body part 13 are supported by diaphragm 12 and any water which may drain from the umbrellas passesthrough the perforations in the diaphragm, into extension 11, through openings 18 and tube15, into receptacle 19. Wet hats or garments may be hung upon hooks 25 and the water dripping therefrom will be caught by body part 13 and directed into receptacle 19, as above described. By pressing the end of spring portion 22,.receptacle 19 may be released from its supporting lugs and emptied. When hooks 25 are not in use, rod 24 may be telescoped into tube 15 so that the device will present a-more attractive appearance.
While I have described my invention as 2 taking a particular form, it will be understood that modifications may be made-with out departing from the spirit thereof, and
hence I do not limit myself to the precise a construction set forth, but consider that I am at liberty to make such changes and alterations as fairly come Within the scope of the appended claims.
' r I claim 1. A device of the character described including a base; a cup-like extension on the base; a perforated diaphragm on top of the extension; an umbrella shaped body part resting on the diaphragm; braces fixed to the body part and extending upwardly to repredraining water from the extension.
2. A device of the character dGSCIllJBd in sent the ribs of an umbrella; a clamp fixed to the upper ends of the braces; a tubular member, having its upper end fixed to the clamps and its lower end secured to the base, holding all of said parts together; and means for eluding a base; a cup-like extension on the base; a perforated diaphragm on top of the extension; an umbrella shaped body part resting on the diaphragm; braces fixed to the body part; a tubular member secured to the braces and extending throughthe base, the tubular member having perforations communicating with the extension; and a nut thread: ed on 'the'tube for securing the body part to the base.
3. A device of the character described including a base; a funnel shaped extension on the base; a perforated diaphragm on top of the extension; an umbrella shapedbody part resting on the diaphragm and having its sides in alignment'with the sides of the extension; a tubular member, having perforations communicating with the extension, extending through the base and securing the body part to the base a receptacle beneath the base; and means for supporting the receptacle.
4. A device of the character described including a base; a hollow frustosconical extenengaging all of said lugs:
In testimony WhereofI have signed my name to this specification.
