LEVI Ibm WYNN, '0F WEST im., j.
KNOCKDWN SEAT.
Application med February 7, 192e. Serial No. 691,230,
To all t may come-rn.'
Be it known that I, LEVI LEE. WYNN, a
citizen of the United States, residing at West Graham, in the county of Tazewell and State of Virginia, have invented a newand useful Knockdown Seat, of which the following is a specification. -This invention relates to benches, chairs or the like,l the primary object of the invention being to provide abench or chair of the knock-down type to facilitate the shipping thereof.
.Another important object ofthe invention is to provide a bench wherein the supporting legs thereof may be readily and easily disconnected so that4 the bench may be conveniently stored, eliminating the necessity of removing bolts, screws-or other securing means usually employed for securingthe legs to a bench.
With the foregoing and other objects in View which will appear -as the description. proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction.hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, maybe made Awithin the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit vention. Y
Referring to the drawing: t Figure 1 is a front elevational View 'of a bench constructed in accordance with the present invention.
Figure 2 is an end elevational view thereof y of the in- Fignre 3 is a sectional view taken on line 3-3 of Figure 2.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the bench, includes a seat portion 5 and a back portion 6, the seat portion including a plurality of spaced bars 7 which are connected vat their forward ends by means of the bar 8. Parallel slats 9 also form a part of the seat portion and are secured to the bars 7 by suitable securing means not shown. Y
Upwardly extending bars 10 constitute the framework for the back section and as shown, these bars 10 have'their lower ends resting on the upper surfaces of the bars 7 at points adjacent to therear ends thereof, l
the bars 10 being provided with bores extendin throughout the entlre lengths thereo 'tom in the disassemblin'g These bores register with openings 11, formed 1n the bars 7 for the reception of the rods 12 that forma part of each leg section. The leg sections are 'indicated at 13, each of which includesra rod bent to provide upwardly lextended portions 14 and 15, the upwardly'extended portions 15 terminating in the portions 12 that fit into the openlng and bore of the bar 10 associated therewith and through the open` ing of the bar 7 disposed ,thereunder to.
secure the leg members against movement. The upwardly ,'extendedi portion 14 of 'each leg member vextends-into an opening 16 formed adjacent to the forward end of the bar 7 associated therewith, whereupon the' leg members are securely but remov ably supported with respect tothe bench. f Extending through the upwardly extended portion 12 of each leg' member is a stop 17 which is-.in the form of a handle to be gripped by the person assembling or disassembling the elements of the bench.
From the foregoing` it will be obvious .that the weight of the persons seated on the bench will be supported by the stop 17 which will tend to relieve the upper bar 18 of the bench' construction of the strain of the weight. A
When it is desired to store'the bench, it
is only necessary to pull the leg lsections from their openings', it being unnecessary tov remove screwsor bolts'as is the usual cusof a bench.
l claim: ln a bench, a seat portion and a back portion,\said back lportion including vertical bars having longitudinally disposed bores, leg sections including lengths of metal.
bent to provide upwardly extended portions adaptedv to be fitted-in the bores to removably secured the leg sections to the seat section, and stops carried by the leg sections and adapted to be engaged by the seatportion' to restrict movement of the seat portion with respect to the leg sections.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto ax'ed my signa* ture in the presence of two witnesses.
LEVI LEE WYNN.
