Description

June 3 1924.
v M. V. WENZEL CALENDAR FOR PENS, PENCILS, ETC
Filed Nov. 16. 1923 JANUARY Patented June 3} 1924.
.MARGARET v. WENZEL. or LE nor. ivrrorrreaiv.
, foALnNDAr-t' ron PENS, muons-arc.
Application filed November 16, 1923. Serial No. 675,125.
T 0 all whom it my concern.
Be it known that I, M ARoAnr-r V. WENZEL,
=abitizen of the United States. residing at Le Roy, in-the county of Osceola and State of hlichigan, have invented certain new and roll may be extended to view rearwardly of a window formed in said cap and this ina novel, simple and expeditious manner.
With the above and other objects in view as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same comprises the novel form, combination and arrangement of partshereinafter more fully described, shown in the accompanying drawing and claimed.
In the drawing wherein there is set forth the most practical embodiment of the invention with which I am at this time familiar and wherein like reference.characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the different views,
Figure 1 is an elevational view of a fountain pen the cap element of which is so constructed after the manner of the present invention as to comprise an essential part of the prese'lntfcalendar construction,
Figure 2' is an enlarged fragmentary sectional view through said cap for more clearly disclosing the calendar mechanism per se,
. Figure 3 is a side elevational view of the calendar roll receiving sleeve of the present invention, 7
Figure 4 is a bottom plan view 'thereof, said calendar strip and its carrying roll bein shown in dotted lines, and
Figure 5 is a side elevational view of said calendar strip carrying roll said calendar stri being disposed thereon.
0W having particular reference to-the drawing. 5 indicates the-conventional form of fountain pen equipped with a pen point protecting cap 6 which in the present instance is formed at its upper end with a re 1 ceptacle 7 of desired length, said receptacle being provided with a relatively square shaped opening 8 in its side wall .for the receptlon of a curvilinear strip of transparent material, preferably celluloid 9.
Adapted for detachable positioning within said receptacle 7 formed upon the upper end of the point protecting cap 6 is a sleeve 10 of preferably the same material as the point protecting cap 6, the up being closed and flange ing a closure for the upper open end of the ,receptacle 7 in. said cap 6..
This sleeve 10 is formed with a portion 12 that extends slightly inward] out of eircumferential alinenient with t e sleeve ander end of this sleeve as at'll for providis formed at its opposite ends with vertical slots 13 and 14, respectively, the slot 13being open'at its lower end as clearly indicated In Figure 3:
Adapted for vertical disposition within the sleeve 10 is a-calendar strip carrying.
roll 15 that is flanged at its opposite ends as at 16 and to which is to be secured the inner end of a calendar strip 1.7 which as clearly shown'in Figure 5 has printed thereon indicia representative of the different 7 months in the year, they free end-of this calendar strip being somewhat pointed as in-. dicated at 18 for a purpose presently to be set forth.
In actual use said calendar 7 roll 15 is positioned within the sleeve 10, it being ofcourse understood that the free end of this calendar strip is to be extended outwardly of the sleeve through the slot 13 after which said. calendar strip may be passed over the before-mentioned portion 12 of said sleeve and have its pointed end 18 projected into the slot 14.
strip carrying It will thus be seen that when the ele ments are properly assembled the articular month will be visible through t e window opening 8 in the point protecting cap 6.
\Vhen it is desired to change the months the roll carrying sleeve may be removed and the calendar strips fed therein as per the dotted lines, Figure 4.
It will thus be seen that whenever it is desirable -to change the months of the cal.- endar strip, the same may be fed inwardly of the sleeve 10 through the slot 14.
1 For allowing of a free rotation oi the:
10 pens, \h'ave iereln shown and described the most 5 wal of the receptacle 7 respectively.
It will thus be seen that I have provided a highly novel and efficient form of calendar specifically adapted'to be employed in conjunotionwith the point protecting caps of encils or the like, and even" though I practicalembodiment of the invention with which Ifam at this-time familiar, it is nevertheless to be understood that minor changes 15 may be made withlntthe invention without departing from the spirit. and scope of the appended claim,
Having thus described my invention, what I I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is In combination with a member formed with a receptacle at one of its ends, said receptacle being formed'with a window opening, a calendar structure adapted for posi-' tioning within the receptacle for view through said window opening, said calendar structure including a calendar strip, a carrying roll to which the strip is to be attached at one end, and a sleeve-clfised at one end for positioning within said {receptacle and' be- Ing, formed with Regal U201 's'paccd'slots whereby a portion of said liillflp nlfly be positioned externally of thefsleevc between said slots.
In testimony whereof I afiiX my signature.
MARG RET v. WENZEL.
