Be it known that I, EDWARD P. MCOLVlN, a citizen of the United States, residing at \Volf Summit, in the county of Harrlson and State of West Virginia, have invented new and useful Improvements in Markers, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to markers and has for its object the provision of a novel indicater or marker which will be luminous in the dark and which is particularly designed for use in connection with poison bottles and the like so that they may be readily distinguished in the dark, it being well known that many persons have been poisoned by grasping the wrong bottle in the dark and taking the contents thereof. The device is however fully capable of use on electric light switches or in fact anything else for the purpose of making the location plain at night.

An important object is the provision of a marker of this character which may be applied in connection with a sticker or which may be provided with 'a penetrating tine adapted to be forced into a cork, in case it is used on a bottle.

An additional object is the provision of a device of this character which will be simple and inexpensive in manufacture, ef-- ficient in use and a general improvement in the art.

With the above and other objects and ad vantages in view, the invention consists in the details of construction to be hereinafter more fully described and claimed and illus trated' in the accompanying drawings, in which:

Referring more articularly to the drawings the letter A esignates a poison bottle owin and B indicates the cork thereof. In carrying out my invention I provide a marker which is formed from a single piece of sheet material, preferably metal of any desired gauge. This piece of metal is indicated by the numeral 10 and is initially of elongated shape as shown. At one end portion this sheet of metal is formed with lateral extensions, 11 which are, in the course of manufacture subsequently bent toward each other .t define retaining flanges 12. At the center of the device, that is at, one terminal of the extensions 11, the piece of material is bent back upon itself as shown at 13 to define a tongue 14. i The letter, numeral or any other descriptive matter desired is painted upon this piece of material between the flanges 12, the paint being of the luminous variety. As a protection for the painted character I rovide a small piece 15 of mica, celluloi or other transparent material which covers the character and which is held by the flanges 12.

This simple form of the device may be attached to a bottle, or in fact any other object by means of an ordinary sticker C which is inserted between the tongue 14; and the body and which has its projecting ends and edge stuck onto the bottle or other ob- 'ect. J In the form shown. in Figures 5 and 6,

the tongue 14 is cut as indicated at 16and the material between these cuts is pointed as shown at 17 and bent outwardly at right angles to define a tine 18 which may be stuck into the cork B of a bottle or the like as shown in Figures 5 and 6.

In the use it is ofcourse apparent that to the luminous character of paint used in applying the legend, numeral, letter or any other indication, it will be apparent that the marker will be clearly visible in the dark so that if it is used in connection with electric light switches or other articles the position thereof may be readily ascertained and so that if it is used for marking medicine or poison bottles, the character will be indicated so that danger of mistake will be eliminated.

While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of the invention it is of course to be understood that I reserve the right to make such changes in the form, construction and arrangement of parts as will not depart from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claims.
