JOHN W. KEITH AND RICHARD W. WILLIAMS, OF HORNIBEAK, TENNESSEE.
HARVEST SACK.
Application filed January 16, 1920.
T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that we, JoI-IN IV. Kerri-r and Riel-mm) IV. l/VILLIAMS, citizens of the United States, residing at I'Iornbeak, in the county of ()bion and State of Tennessee, have invented new and useful Improvements in Harvest-Sacks, of which the following in a specification.
The object of our present joint invention is the provision of a sack designed to be used to advantage in the harvesting of crops of various kinds, and embodying a construction which, without interfering with the convenient use of the sack, is extremely strong and durable, and this without rendering the sack unduly expensive.
To the attainment of the foregoing, the invention consists in the improvement as hereinafter described and definitely claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, hereby made a part hereof:
Figure 1 is an elevation of our novel sack. Fig. 2 is an enlarged plan view illustrating the mouth of the sack as open.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged elevation, taken at right angles to Fig. 2, and showing the mouth of the sack as secured in closed position.
Similar numerals of reference designate corresponding parts in all of the views of the drawings.
The body 1 of our novel sack may be and preferably is of the ordinary well known construction, and is fabricated of duck or other appropriate textile material. sack mouth 2 is formed by two flaps 3 which are eontinuations of the side walls 4 of the body 1, and preferably have their edges hemmed, as indicated by 5 and 6, respectively.
Arranged at the inner side of the side edge portions of the flaps 3 are leather straps 7 secured to the flaps through the medium of rivets 8. Each strap 7 extends from the transverse edge of one flap 3 to the transverse edge of the other flap 3, and the end portions of each strap are carried out wardly beyond the said transverse flap edges, and are then folded rearwardly and arranged against the outer sides of the flaps, as indicated by 10, so that each outer end portion 10 of each strap will receive the two outer rivets 8 of each series of rivets. The
' strap arrangement described affords bights Specification of Letters Patent.

are arranged the inner transverse bars of metallic loops l2. Manifestly by virtue of the construction described, the metallic loops 12 are strongly connected to the flaps 3, and through the said flaps to the body 1.
At 13 is a shoulder strap to the end portions of which are connected, preferably in adjustable manner as shown, snap-hooks ll.
It will be readily understood that incidental to the filling of the sack, the loops 12 on one flap 3 are disconnected from the snap-hooks 14, and hence the said flap will depend from the mouth portion of the sack and leave the mouth open for the convenient placing of substance in the sack. There fore when it is desired to close the sack, it is simply necessary to place the loops 12 on the flap referred to, in engagement with the snap-hooks 1a, whereupon the closed sack may be conveniently carried through the medium of the shoulder strap 13. We would also have it understood that either of the flaps 3 may be connected alone to the snaphooks 14 during the carrying and filling of the sack. In other words, the sack is reversible, and from this it follows that the usefulness of the same will be materially prolonged.
Having described our invention, what we claim and desireto secure by Letters-Patent, is:
A' harvest sack comprising a body and flaps between which is formed a mouth; the said body and flaps being of textile material and the flaps constituting continuations of the side walls of the body, leather straps arranged against the inner sides of the flaps at the side edges thereof and each extending from the transverse edge of one flap to the transverse edge of the other flap and each having a bight at its transverse center and also having outer end portions and bights that project beyond the transverse edges of the flaps, rivets extending through and connecting the flaps and the straps, other rivets extending through and connecting the major portions of the straps to flaps and the outer end portions of the straps, metallic loops the inner end bars of which are disposed in the said bights of the straps, and a shoulder strap equipped with snap-hooks detachably engaged with the said metallic loops.
In testimony whereof we affix our signat es.
ur JOHN W. KEITH.
