ELASTIC BAND-FASTENING FOR POCKET-BOOKS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters latent No. 237,890, dated February 15, 1881.

elastic band, plates provided with hook and slot to allow them to interlock, as hereinafter described. v
A represents the body and B the flap of a pocket-book. O is an open elastic hand, one
end of which is secured to the flap B by a plate, D. The plate D has points upon its edges which pass through the flap B, and are bent down upon the other side of said flap or upon a-plate, E, placed upon the under side of the said flap. The other end of the open band 0 is passed through a slot or eye in the rear edge of a plate, F, is turned back upon itself, and is secured by a rivet, by sewing, or
by other suitable means. Upon the forward edge of the plate F is formed a hook, G, to hook into a hole'or eye, H, in the plate D, and a hook, I, is formed upon the outer edge of the plate D to hook into a hole or eye, J, in the plate F, or in the shank of the hook G formed upon the said plate F.
With this construction, in putting the elastic band 0 around and removing it from the pocket-book A B,it is only necessary to stretch the elastic band 0 enough to pass around the said pocket-book, and there is no necessity of stretching it so much as to injure its elasticity, which is unavoidable when the ends of the elastic band are permanently connected in the ordinary manner. v
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent In pocket-book fastenings, the elastic band C, secured at one end tofl flap B, in combination with the plates D 'F, eachlprovided with a hook and slot or hole; whereby they may be interlocked, as shown and described.
