WITNESSES v INVENTOR Jqcob Herbert By M Anon/1H8 UNITED sTATEs PATENT ormon.
JACOB HERBERT, or DETROIT, MICHIGAN,
PORTRAIT FINGER-RING.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 23, 1920.
application filed November 1, 1918, Serial No. 260,682. Renewed September 27, 1919. Serial No. 326,936.
To all whom it may concern:
lie it known that I, JAooe HERBERT, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented a new and lmproved Portrait Finger-li ing, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact de-.
invention consists of certain novel features ill of construct-ion as hereinafter shown and described and then specifically pointed out in the claims.
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this spec1fication, n which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 IS a perspeotlve view of the portrait finger ring with the cover of the portrait holder in open position;
Fig. 2 is an enlarged sectional side elevation of the finger ring with part of the annular band shown in elevation; and
Fig. 3 is a cross section of the same.
The plain annular band 10 of the portrait finger ring is provided with a th ckened and wider top portion 11 provided in its outer face with a depression or recess 12 adapted to contain a portrait 13. This portrait is usually provided with a cardboard body and rests on an annular seat it formed by the upwardly and outwardly inclined lower portions of the sides of the thickened portion 11, as plainly indicated in Figs. 2 and 3. The recess 12 is adapted to be closed by a cover 15 provided with a depending annular flange l'l' snugly fitting against the inner face of the wall 16 of the top, portion 11 so as to normally hold the cover 15 in closed position by frictional contact of the flange 17 with the side wall 16 of the thickened portion 11. The lower edge of the annular flange 17 is adapted to rest on the top marginal portion of the portrait 13 so as to securely hold the latter in position on its seat 14 and thus prevent the portrait from shifting. The cover 15 is provided with an; opening 19 in the wall of which is set an ornament 20 preferably in the form of a precious diaphanous stone, which enhances the appearance of the ring and permits of viewing the portrait 13 from the outside without opening the cover 15.
1F rent the foregoing it will be seen that 1 the wearer or owner of the ring can readily open the cover 15 and remove the portrait 13' and replace it by another whenever it is desired to do so. Tt will also be noticed that the portrait shows through the diaphanous ornament 20 to enhance the appearance of the ring.
Having thus claim as new Patent 1. A portrait finger ring comprising a band having a thickened and widened top portion provided in its outer face with a recess adapted to receive a portrait, and a hinged cover closing the recess and having described my invention, it and desire to secure by Letters a depending annular flange hitting the inner faces of the walls of the recess to hold the cover closed by frictional contact and for engaging the portrait in the recess .to prevent it from shifting, said cover having a diaphanous stone ornament to permit of viewing the portrait.
2. A portrait finger ring comprising an annular band having a thickened and widened top portion provided in its outer face with a recess adapted to receive a por trait, the lower portions of the side walls of the said top portion being beveled upwardly and outwardly to form an annular seat below its upper edge, and a hinged cover closing the said recess, the said'cover having a depending annular flange fitting against the inner faces of the side wall of the said recessed top to hold the cover closed by frictional contact and for engaging the portrait to hold it on the said seat.
3. A portrait finger ring comprising an .annular ,band having a thickened and widened top portion provided in its outer face with a recess, the lower portions of the side walls of the said top ortion being beveled upwardly and outwar ly to form an annular seat, said iecess being adapted to reflan also serving to hold the said portrait ceive a portrait seated on the said seat, and, a to t e seat, the said cover being provided hinged cover closing the said recess, the said with an opening and with a dia hanous 10 cover having a dependingannular flange precions stone ornament set in the wa l of the fitting against the inner faces of the side said cover opening to permit of viewing the wall of the said recessed top to hold the said portrait.
cover closed by frictional contact, the said JACOB HERBERT.
