HENRY H. C. EICEIELBERGER AND HILARY W. BRUNER, OF ROCKETT, TEX.
SPRING BED-BOTTOM.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 248,415, dated October 18, 1881. Application led June 11, 1881. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, H. H. C. EICHELBER- GER and H. W. BRUNER, of Crockett, in the county ot' Houston and State ot' Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Spring Bed-Bottoms; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and-use the saine, reference beinghadtotheaccompanyingdrawings,\vhich form a part of this specification.
In the drawings,Figure lis a plan view,and Fig. 2 a side elevation.
Corresponding parts in both figures are denoted by the same letters ot' reference.
This invention relates to springs to form bedbottoms, and has for its object to construct a series ot spring-coils ofone piece of wire, which is accomplished by certain improvements in the construction and arrangement of the springs7 substantially as will be hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
Referring by letters to the drawings, A designatesa pairot' twin springs, connected by a horizontal connecting-coil, B, and having the wire otone ot' the coils or springs continued diagonally under the bed-shit, as at C, and from thence upward to form the first spiral coil of the neXtset, A', and extending to form the connecting-coil B and next spiral, from which the wire passes again diagonally under the bed-Slat, as at C', and so on until any desired number of coils or spirals are constructed. When the end of the slat is reached the wire may be continued across to the adjoining slat and the same formation ot coils followed; and in this manner, as will be obvious, an entire bed-bottom may be made ofa single piece of wire, and thus save the expense and inconvenience ot' coils becoming detached or lost.
We are aware that a double coil ot'springs has been formed before and connected at their tops by a diagonal piece extending from slat to Slat, the connecting-piece being integral with the coil; but such we do not claim as ot' ourinvention.
From the foregoing description the operation and advantage of our invention will be readily understood. It is simple in construction, inexpensive, and far more comfortable than single or separate springs ot' a similar construction.
We claim- The hereindescribed method of forming spring bed-bottoms of one piece of wire, which consists in continuing the Wire ot' one coil or spiral diagonally under the bed-slat, and from thence upward to form a second coil or spiral, and thence horizontally across to form a third coil, and so on in like manner until the desired number of coils have been formed and attached to the slats, as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that we claim the foregoing as our own we have hereto aftixed our signatures in presence of two Witnesses.
HENRY H. C. EICHELBERGER. HILARY WEN'IZ BRUNER.
