SPOON HOLDING ATTACHMENT FOB POTS AND FANS:
' APPLICATION FILED mm. 191:.

nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn w SPOON-HOLDING ATTACHMENT Ton POTS Ann FANS.
Specification of'Letters Patent. Patented Mar, 12, 1918,
Application filed. January 6, 1917. Serial No. 141,002."
To'aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH J BULLEN, of the city of Titusville, in the county of Blair, in the State of Pennsylvania, one of the United States of America, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Spoon-Holding Attachments for Pots and Pans, of which the following is a specification. 7
My object is to devise a simple attachment which may readily be sprung on to the rim of a pot or pan and which will conveniently hold a spoon or stirring utensil ready for use.
I attain my object by providing metal jaws capable of being sprung over the rim of the pot or pan and having a wire coil secured thereon, substantially as heremafter more specifically described and as illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the attachment connected to the rim of a pan;
Fig. 2 an end elevation of the attachment; and
Fig. 3 a side elevation of the same.
In the drawings like numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in the different figures.
1 is a clip formed by bending a fiat metal plate to form jaws which may be readily slipped over the edge of apot or pan as shown. Preferably a slight enlargement is formed at the bend between the jaws to ac commodate the wired or beaded edge of the pan.
2 is a wire coil which is secured to the jaws at the bend, preferably in the following manner. A hole 3 is formed through the metal of the jaws at the bend'and one end 4 of the wire coil is passed through this hole and securely soldered in position. The other end 5 of the coil is fitted between the jaws at the bend. Preferably a notch 6 is cut in the metal of the bend between the jaws in which lies the wire of the coil ad- I Copies of this patent may be obtained for I jacent the end 5 and thisrestrains the 'lat eral movement of the coil.
The device is used by being connected with .the pot or pan as shown and whenever a spoon which has been used for stirring requires to be supported, part of the handle is pressed between adjacent turns of the wire coil as shown. More than one spoon may be supported by the one holder owing to the resiliency of the coil and to the fact that it may be expanded longitudinally, one
,of the ends being free as above described.
Though the special arrangement of the end 5 permits of free expansion of the coil thus decreasing strain on the fixed end, it effectively holds the coil in place at the top of the bend of the jaws.
I do not, of course, desire torestrict myself to the exact construction of the jaws or the clip as shown, as various modifications may be made which would fall within the scope of my invention.
What 1 claim as my invention is:
1. A spoon holder attachment comprising jaws adapted to fit over the rim of a pot or pan and a wire coil having one end secured rigidly to said jaws at one side and having its other end bent parallel to the axis of the coil and fitted between the two sides of the jaw so as to be slidable therein parallel to the axis of the coil.
2. A spoon holder attachment comprising a piece of sheet metal bent to form jaws adapted to fit over the rim of a pot or pan, and a wire coil connected at one end to said jaws at the bend and having its other end bent parallel to the axis of the coil and fitted between the two sides of the jaws at the bend so as to be slidable therein parallel to the axis of the coil, a notch being formed in the piece of metal at the bend to receive the wire of the coil adjacent the said end.
Signed at Tyrone, Pa., this 20th day of December, A. D. 1916.
