To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, FREDERICK H. APE a citizen of the United States, residing at Athol Springs, in the county of Erie and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Spring- Forked Holders.

The following I declare to be a full, clear and exact description of my invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains, to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to figures of reference marked thereon, which form part of this specification. My invention relates tojsupporting means adapted to support towels and other articles.

The objects of my invention are to provide useful and handy means which is self contained and can be screwed to a wall or other support for suspending articles, which can be readily attached to and detached from the same; to rovide an article of manufacture which can be cheaply made and which will be attractive in appearance and saleable; and to further provide a device which will not injure articles when being attached to or detached from it.

My holder consists of two pieces, one of which is a screw eye, the other being a piece of sheet metal formed about the said screw eye into a spring fork, illustrated in the drawings.

Referring to Fig. 1, 1 is the'screw eye having a threaded portion 2 and an eye portion 3. The threaded portion 2 passes through a hole t in the crotch 5 from which project the tines 6 and 7 forming the fork. A tongue 8 integral with the sheet metal forming the tines 6 and 7, passes through the hole 9 and the eye 3 and is bent to bind the sheet metal to the said screw eye 1, to form a body. The respective free ends 10 and 11 of the tines 6 and 7 are bent outward.

In Fig. 2 the screw eye 1 has a threaded tines 6 and 7 is shown providing the convexinner faces for the sides and the longitudinal edges 13, 14, 15 and 16 are turned outward.

The blank 12 shown in Fig. 3 is cut from sheet metal in a stamping machine. The convexity of the tines 6 and 7 andthe outward curvature of the ends 10. and 11 are formed between dies adapted for thesame. After inserting the screw eye 1 in the hole 4 the tines 6 and 7 are benttogether around the screw eye 1 between another set of dies and are bound together by the tongue 8. The screw portion 2 is thus made an integral part of the spring forked holder which, when screwed to a wall or other support, forms a very serviceable means for-supporting any article pressed in between the tines 6 and 7 of the spring forked holder. Inasmuch as the edges 18, 14, 15 and 16 are turned outward, there is no danger of the suspended article coming in forced contact therewith, to cut or damage the same.

On account of the tines 6 and 7 being straight for most of their length, they afi'ord the maximum amount of gripping surface for flexible articles such as towels or other cloths.

I claim,

The combination in a supporting means, adapted for screw-threaded attachment to a penetrable surface, of athreaded member and a U-shaped clamping member, said U-shaped clamping member having two closely positioned long practically parallel elastic arms with opposing convexed surfaces, with out-turned ends, the said threaded- Gopies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents,
