Description

I E. W. GORHAM. BROOM HOLDER. APPLICATION TILED MAY 10, 1912.
Patented" Sept. 1, 1914.
3140M A? 7 2 (2or/zam UNI ED STATES EDGAR w. GORHAM, or triv'nonvirrl'nynniaonn BROOM-HOLDER. f
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, EDGAR W. GORHAM, citizen of the United States, residing at Lyndonville, in the county of Caledonia and State of Vermont, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Broomllolch ers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to devices for suspending brooms, mops and like implements by the handles, and has for one of its objects to improve the construction and increase the efficiency and utility of devices of this charproved device applied and attached to, a'
wall; Fig. 2 is a detached-plan view of the improved device; Fig. 3 is a section on the line 33 ofFig. 2.
The improved device comprises a disk or plate 10 which may be of any required shape, but preferably circular and provided with an opening therethrough. At diametrically opposite sides of the opening 11, the metal constituting the body of the plate is permanently deflected in opposite directions to form rigid gripping members 12 13 offset with respect to the upper and lower faces of the plate, as sh own, the upset 12 being directed from one face of the plate and the upset 13 being directed from the opposite side of the plate. By this simple means the opening is enlarged at two opposite'sides so that when tilted a larger handle indicated at .l-l, may be inserted than could be inserted if the upset portions were not formed in the plate. Ry this-simple arrangement it will be obvious that when a relatively small handle is to be supported the plate will be located so that the portions of the plate between the upsets will engage against the handle and the plate tilted to cause the metal to engage the handle as indicated in Fig. 1. If a larger handle is to be supported the plate is Specification of Letters Piateiit.
tilted to a greater extent to enable the handle to be inserted and bear against the opposite portions of the plate. The 'plate is arranged to be supported from one edge onlyand an ordinary screw eye 15 will preferably be employed for this purpose. It will be noted that the screw eye is located opposite the upset portion 12 so that the two upset portions and the screw eye are substantially in alinement transversely of the plate. If a broom, mop or other implement having a relatively small handle is to be supported, the plate is turned laterally upon its screw eye support to enable the handle to be engaged against the portions of the plate between the upsets as above noted, and then when the weight of the implement comes upon the plate the latter will hang at an angle from its screw eye support, but will effectually hold the handle. By this simple arrangement a simple and convenient. device is produced which may be inexpensively "manufactured and is adapted to support handles of varying s zes, as above noted,
without structural change in the device.
Having thus described the invention, What is claimed asne'w is:
