GARBAGE PAIL.

Specification o e ers Patent.
Patented duly lit, JlWld.
Application filed August 311, 1915. Serial No. 48,287.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, JOSEPH MOGRATH and HENRY W. BANSGHBACH, citizens of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York,
have invented new and useful Improvements in Garbage-Pails, of which the following is a specification. I
This invention relates to improvements in garbage receptacles and has particular application to means for thoroughly dlsinfecting and deodorizing the contents of the receptacle.
In carrying out the present invention, it is our purpose to provide means. for deodorizing and disinfecting the contents of garbage receptacles which may be earned by the top of the receptacle and constructed in such manner as to hold the disinfecting medium in proper position and at the same time enable the fumes from the disinfectant to enter the garbage receptacle and so disinfect and deodorize the contents thereof.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter set forth in and falling within the scope of the claims.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a fragmentary vertical sectional View through a garbage receptacle equipped with means constructed in accordance with the present invention. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the disinfecting means removed from the receptacle.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, 1 designates a garbage pail or receptacle and 2 the cover for such pail.
Secured to the inner surface of the cover 2 centrally thereof is a cup-shaped container 3 having the side wall at the upper edge diverging outwardly as at 4. Seated at the juncture of the main portion of the side wall with the outwardly diverging portion 4 is a pad 5 carrying a suitabledisinfecting medium. The outwardly divergingportion 4 of the side Wall of the cup-shaped receptacle 3 is stamped to form ti-shaped vent openings 6, while the material struck from such openings is bent downwardly in the form of tongues 7 and'these tongues 7 engage the pad 5 and: hold the latter against the seat. a
In practice, the pad5 containing the disinfecting medium is placed upon the seat formed at the juncture of the lower portion of the side wall with the outwardly divergmg portion 4, and the tongues 7 stamped from the openings 6 are bent back upon the pad 5 to maintain the latter against its seat. When the top or cover 2 is on the pail l, the fumes from the disinfectant carried by the pad 5 pass through the openings 6 and so disinfect and deodorize the contents of the receptacle. In the present instance, the lower end of the cup-shaped container 3 is closed by means of a removable cap 8 threaded onto the side Wall of the container and capable of removal from the container in order to facilitate the renewal of the pad,
or the renewal of the disinfecting agent on the pad.
We claim:
1. Deodorizing means for garbage recept'acles comprising a cup-shaped casing secured to the under surface of the cover of the receptacle and having the upper edge of the side wall thereof diverging outwardly and stampedto form openings, the material stamped from such openings being bent back in the form of tongues, and a disinfectant pad seated at the juncture of the lower portion of the side wall with the outwardly diverging portion thereof and held upon such seat by said tongues.
' 2. Deodorizing means for garbage receptacles comprising a cup-shaped casing secured to the under surface of the cover of the receptacle and having the upper edge of the side wall thereof diverging outwardly and stamped to form openings, the material stamped from such openings being bent back in the form of tongues, a disinfectant pad seated at the juncture of the lower por-
