' NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ABRAHAM R. MIRANDA, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
GARBAGE-BUCKET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 499,137, dated June 6, 1893.
Application filed September 15, 1392. Serial No. 445,993. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ABRAHAM R. MIRANDA, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of the city of Boston, in the county of Suifolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented a certain new and useful Improved Sanitary Garbage-Bucket, of which the following is a full, clear, and exactdescription.
This invention consists of a cabinet, substantially as hereinafter described, to receive a bucket or pail, suitable for holding garbage, &c., and by means of which, with the cabinet closed, the garbage, 850., may be disinfected and its obnoxious gases destroyed, or in other words, neutralized.
In the drawings, forming part of this specification, Figure 1 is a plan view of the cabinet closed. Fig. 2 is a central vertical section, line 22, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section, line 33, Fig. 2.
In the drawings, A is a pail or bucket having a bail-handle A and all as usual, or otherwise suitable and proper for holding garbage, &c.
B is the cabinet to contain the garbage holding pail A. This cabinet is in the general form of a cylindrical chamber having a circular running side-wall 13 a bottom or floor-wall B attached to said side wall and a removable cover or lid B, suitable to tightly fit and close the upper open end of the sidewall of the cabinet. The cabinet Bis of suitable size to receive and hold the garbage pail A, leavin git free and unobstructed at its sides and top.
B is a chamber, Within the side-wall B and the floor B and continuous as to each of said walls.
O, C are sections of wicking or such like, each suspended at its upper-portion from the side-wall of and Within the chamber B at its upper end-portion, and severally preferably extended around said Wall and entered into the floor portion of said chamber B D, D are openings, preferably screen ed with wire netting, at the inner portion of the chambered side-Wall and communicating with the chamber B These screened openings are in upper and lower rows about the sidewall. The chamber B is to be properly charged with liquid disinfectant of any suitable kind, by pouring it thereinto through one of its said openings D. The wicking of the chamber B draws up the liquid disinfectant and presents it for its gases to escape at the openings D, D, into the chamber of the cabinet, wherein is placed the garbage pail, for action on the garbage, to disinfect it and destroy its obnoxious gases, or in other words, to neutralize them.
The cover 13 of the cabinet has a chamber 13, the floor B of which has a number of perforations a, suitably arranged to register with correspondingly arranged perforations b of a disk E located to be oscillated back and forth on a fixed center pin d of and over the cover floor B and so to have its perforations registered or placed out of register with the perforations a of said floor.
F is a handle to the perforated disk and projected through a slot F of the cover, in position to be handled to suitably manipulate said disk, and said slot is of suitable length to, insure the aforesaid registering and unregistering of said perforations.
The chamber of the cover'is charged with a pulverized disinfectant, of any suitable kind, and this disinfectant, by oscillating the perforated disk, is sifted onto the garbage in the pail, to the end of disinfecting it, acting in co-operation With the vapors from the liquid disinfectant as before explained. The outer edge of the cover is turned up, so as with the side-wall of the cabinet, the cover being in place, to form a channel or receptacle G for water to seal the joint between the cover and cabinet.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- 1. In a cabinet B, side and floor-walls B B having ach'amberB WickingO suspended at the upper portion of said. chamber, and openings D, in said side-wall, in combination with a cover B closing, and a pail or bucket A located in said cabinet, substantially as described, for the purposes specified.
2. In a cabinet B, side and floor-walls B B havinga chamber B wicking O suspended at the upper portion of said chamber, and
openings D in said sidewall, in combination In testimony whereof I have hereunto set with a cover B closing said cabinet and havmy hand in the presence of two subscribing 1o ing a chamber B with a perforated floor B witnesses. an oscillating perforated disk E to register 5 and unregister with said perforated floor B MIRANDA and a pail or bucket located in said cabinet, Witnesses: substantially as described, for the purposes ALBERT W. BROWN, specified. MARY W. STORER.
