FRANK A. WARNER, OF WASHINGTON, VERMONT.
BED.
Application filed December 4, 1911.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK A. WARNER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Washington, in the county of Orange and State of Vermont, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Beds; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to beds, and is designed particularly to construct a bed bottom which will be comparatively rigid, but at the same time be supplied with a certain resiliency that will promote comfort, etc., to the user.
It is a. further object to provide a bed bottom which will be capable of vertical. motion without interference in any manner by the supports to which it is attached.
With the above and other objects in view, this invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts, all as hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a bed bottom constructed in accordance with the present invention; and Fig. 2 is a transverse section taken along line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, 10 indicates an end bar which is adapted to be secured at each transverse terminal of the bed, said bar being provided with the extensions 10" which are formed by the recesses 11 located on each side of the inwardly extending, centrally located projection 12. One of these bars 10 is placed at each end of the bed frame, and is supported thereby, said bars fori'ning a means for securing the bed bottom to the bed frame.
A short spring member 13 is secured to Specification of Letters Patent.

Serial No. 663,680.
the upper surface of each projection 12, and has superposed thereabove a longitudinal spring member 14, said spring members adapted to rest flush against one another. Secured to the terminals and interposed be tween each pair of elongated spring members 14L is a longitudinal bar 15, each bar being provided with a recess 16 in the under surface of each terminal thereof, to provide for the reception of the extensions 10 of the end bar 10. These recessed terminals of the bars 15 also provide stops for the bar 15, to prevent. the strain of the spring members 1?) and 1 st. The terminals of the bar 15 are secured together by the transverse angle bars 17 which are of any suitable and desired length. Interposed between the angle bars are slats 18 connected at their ends by bars 20.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by U. S. Letters Patent, is:
A bed bottom comprising a pair of transverse end bars having extended free ends and ceIitrally-disposed inwardly-extemling projections formed thereon, a plurality of superposed flat springs secured at their inner ends to said projections and extending outwardly parallel to the end bars, a pair of longitiulinal bars secured to the free ends of said springs and extending over said end bars, the ends of the longitudinal bars being recessed. upon their under sides for the reception of said end bars, and a plurality of slats ecured transversely of the longitudinal bars, said slats being connccttal at their ends by bars.
In testimony whereof I atiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
