SPRING-BEDSTEAD.

Beit known that I, WILLIAM M. JoNE's, a

.citizen of the United States, residing at Cerro Gordo, in the county of Hardin and State of Tennessee, have invented a new and useful Spring-Bedstead, of which the following is a specification.

The invention relates to improvements in spring-bedsteads.

The object of the present invention is to improve the construction of spring-bedsteads and to provide a simple and inexpensive spring-support for slats adapted to be readily applied to the ordinary construction of bedsteads and capable of preventing the slats from accidentally falling, and of permitting them to be readily removed when desired.

A further object of the invention is to provide a spring-bedstead which will be adapted to be readily cleaned, and which will afford no recesses or crevices for the accumulation of vermin.

The invention consists in the construction and novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claims hereto appended.

In the drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of a bedstead constructed in accordance with this invention. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section al lview of the same. Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view of one side of the bedstead.

Like numerals of reference designate corresponding parts in all the gures of the drawings.

l l designate a pair of longitudinally-disposed slat-supporting springs arranged adjacent to the inner faces of the side rails of a bedstead and extending from the top to the bottom thereof and provided at intervals with rectangular bends forming recesses 2 for the reception of slats 3 of the ordinary construction. The slats 3 may be of any desired number, and as the springs are arranged close to the side rails of the bedstead the slats cannot become accidentally disengaged from the recesses 2.

The slat support-s or springs, which are constructed of suitable resilient material, consist of a horizontal body portion, which is provided with the said Slat-receiving recesses 2, and substantially U -shaped resilient end portions 4, extending beneath the body portion. ranged in openings 5 of substantially L- shaped brackets 6, secured to the inner faces of the side rails of the bedstead. The brackets may be of any desired number, but two for each side rail will be usually found suiiicient, and the openings 5, in which the ends of the springs have a limited play, are arranged in the horizontal portions or arms of the L-shaped brackets.

The Slat-supporting springs dispense with the ordinary bars, which are usually provided at the inner faces of the side rails for the reception of the slats, and it will be apparent that the Slat-supporting springs are exceedin gly simple and inexpensive in construction, that they are adapted to be readily applied to bedsteads of the ordinary construction without necessitating any change therein, and that they form a secure support for the slats. It will also be apparent that they do not interfere with the cleaning of the bed and will enable the slats to be quickly removed and readily replaced, as desired.

Changes in the form, proportion, and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention.

In a spring-bedstead, the combination with side rails, of brackets secured to the side rails, and a pair of longitudinally-disposed Slat-supports arranged adjacent to the side rails and comprising horizontal body portions provided with Slat-receiving recesses, and substantially U -shaped resilient end portions extending beneath the body portions and supported by the said brackets, substantially as described.

2. In a spring-bedstead, the combination with side rails, of brackets secured to the side rails and provided with horizontal arms or portions having openings,and longitudinallydisposed Slat-supporting springs provided at intervals with Slat-receiving recesses and having their end portions bent downward beneath them and extended longitudinally of the springs, and arranged in the openings of the brackets, substantially as described.
