Abstract
Description
The invention relates to the metallurgy of non-ferrous and rare metals and alloys based on them, and in particular to the production of compact ingots, sponges or powders by the method of metallothermy.
Metallothermal processes occurring in the combustion mode occupy one of the leading places in the metallurgy of rare metals. In most cases, the main goal of the metallothermic process is to obtain a metal or alloy in the form of a compact ingot. If the heat generated as a result of the metallothermal reaction is insufficient for the metallothermal reaction to proceed in the combustion mode, the problem arises of preheating the reaction mixture. Another problem that has to be solved in the preparation of rare metals and their alloys by the reduction smelting method is the choice of crucible material. Almost all rare metals are chemically active, which limits or eliminates the use of graphite and ceramic crucibles.
To solve these two problems, vacuum induction furnaces with sectioned copper water-cooled (cold) crucibles have effectively proven themselves (UK patent 1269029, MKI C22B).
The closest in technical essence and the achieved result is the method (UK patent 1279396, MKI C 22 B) for the production of metals and alloys, according to which the reaction mixture prepared by thoroughly mixing the powder of the reducible compound and the granules of the reducing metal is placed in a vertical metal crucible, transparent for an electromagnetic field, the reaction mixture is heated by means of high-frequency currents induced in the charge, the crucible is cooled so that a solid protective layer is created slag on its wall, high-frequency current and cooling of the crucible are supplied so as to maintain the reaction mass in the molten state until the metal and slag are completely separated, after which they are cooled. Frequency of induction currents 400 000 10 000 000 Hz.
большой расход электроэнергии, обусловленный необходимостью поддержания длительное время продуктов плавки в жидком состоянии после металлотермической реакции до полного разделения металла и шлака при интенсивном охлаждении тигля;
необходимость применения индукционного тока частотой 400 000 Гц и выше, что обусловлено низкой электропроводностью шлаковых расплавов;
способ весьма неэффективен для осуществления процессов в тиглях больших диаметров из-за ярко выраженного поверхностного эффекта при применении частот диапазона 400 000 Гц и выше;
значительные потери восстановительного металла и сплава в защитной шлаковой корке;
значительные затраты на гранулирование металла-восстановителя;
The disadvantages of this method are:
high energy consumption, due to the need to maintain a long time of the melting products in the liquid state after the metallothermic reaction until the metal and slag are completely separated during intensive cooling of the crucible;
the need to use induction current with a frequency of 400,000 Hz and above, due to the low electrical conductivity of slag melts;
the method is very ineffective for carrying out processes in large-diameter crucibles due to a pronounced surface effect when using frequencies in the range of 400,000 Hz and above;
significant losses of the reducing metal and alloy in the protective slag crust;
significant costs for granulation of a metal reducing agent;
the complexity of preparing a thoroughly mixed reaction mixture of components, which, as a rule, differ sharply in bulk density and fineness, which leads to delamination when loading into a crucible.
Taking into account the above, an improved method for producing compact sponge ingots and powders of non-ferrous and rare metals and alloys based on them by the reduction smelting method has been created, which includes the advantages of carrying out the process in crucibles that are transparent to the electromagnetic field, but is less energy-intensive and greatly simplifies the process, and including the operation of preparing the mixture.
A distinctive feature of the invention, determining its novelty, is that the metal reducing agent is loaded into the crucible in the form of a monolithic block with cavities into which the reducible compound is placed. The shape of the monolithic block of the reducing metal is similar to the shape of the reaction crucible. The volume of cavities in the block of the metal reducing agent is determined based on the composition of the reaction mixture and the bulk density of the recovered compound. A metal reducing agent block with cavities for loading a reducible compound is most economically produced by casting into a mold in which rods are installed that form cavities in the block after they are removed. The cavities in the block can be drilled, but a significant amount of waste is generated.
A feature of the invention is also the frequency range of induction currents 50 67 000 Hz.
The use of a metal reducing agent in the form of a monolithic block allows preliminary heating of the reaction mixture over time several times less and at a lower power consumption than when using a ground reducing agent, when its particles are separated from each other by particles of a reducible compound.
The use of a metal reducing agent allows at least a 2-fold increase in the one-time loading into the reaction crucible and thereby increase the productivity of the equipment.
The use of induction currents in the range of 50-67 000 Hz ensures, after the reduction metal is melted, intense electromagnetic mixing of the reacting components and creates the conditions for a complete metallothermal reaction.
