Abstract

Se proporciona un aparato y metodo para medir patrones de actividad del medio en redes inalambricas y derivar informacion acerca del ambiente de radio a partir de de los patrones/actividad del medio medidos. Esta invencion es de tres aspectos. Primero, define que medir, incluyendo patrones inactivo/activo del medio basado en la deteccion de energia, patrones inactivo/activo del medio con base en deteccion del preambulo, y patron inactivo/activo del medio basado en deteccion virtual. Segundo, proporciona un mecanismo para comunicar la peticion de medicion y reporte, como ilustracion para el caso de IEEE 802.11. Y por ultimo, define la informacion que puede deducirse dadas estas mediciones como descubrimiento de: dispositivos no-802, sistemas 802.11e, prioridades de acceso al medio basado en contencion 802.11e, uso de acceso al medio controlado 802.11e, existencia 802.11b/g, y estaciones ocultas.
