Description
The present invention relates to a fuel cell catalyst support.
A fuel cell is a device that converts chemical energy into electrical energy using fuel such as hydrogen. In the fuel cell, it is important to induce a reaction that minimizes the overvoltage so that the polarization at the equilibrium potential can be minimized at the same rate of the electrochemical reaction. To this end, it is necessary to improve the dispersion of the catalyst particles and to have an optimal form to participate in the reaction.
In general, the operating potential region exists in the range of 1.0-0.4V when driving the fuel cell. In the case of carbon components constituting the fuel cell electrode, the thermodynamic oxidation standard potential of the gasification reaction is 0.207V, so natural oxidation occurs at a potential higher than this. can't stop it
In other words, it can be said that the driving voltage condition of the fuel cell generates a high oxidative overvoltage with respect to carbon and promotes a poor damage atmosphere. A high potential of 1.2V or higher is induced in carbon around the boundary. These conditions accelerate the reaction rate of carbon corrosion, which in turn degrades the performance of the fuel cell and shortens its lifespan. As a countermeasure against this, there are various studies on the preparation of platinum in nano size to increase the activity of the fuel cell catalyst and the support of platinum in a high dispersion and high ratio on a carbon support having a high specific surface area. There are no satisfactory results.

In the present invention, a fuel cell catalyst support treated with nitrate is placed in a reactor, and ammonia gas, which is a nitrogen source, is flowed into the reactor while the internal temperature of the reactor is raised to 600 to 800° C. By reacting with , carbon atoms constituting the fuel cell catalyst support are replaced with nitrogen atoms supplied from ammonia gas. Due to this, the carbon component of the fuel cell catalyst support that can come into contact with oxygen is reduced, so that the carbon corrosion rate of the fuel cell catalyst support is delayed, thereby improving the performance of the fuel cell and shortening the lifespan.
In the present invention, a fuel cell catalyst support to be treated with nitric acid is prepared by steam activation treatment of an acetylene black support. The acetylene black support is composed of acetylene black particles. Acetylene black particles are composed of a skeleton portion having a high graphitization degree and a base portion having a relatively low graphitization degree, so that the skeleton portion can prevent deterioration of durability of the fuel cell catalyst support due to carbon corrosion.
The present invention adjusts the ratio of the skeleton and the base of the acetylene black support to the additional heat treatment temperature and time of the acetylene black support to increase the ratio of the skeleton of the acetylene black support. The higher the proportion of the skeletal part, the better the durability of the fuel cell catalyst support, and the better it can withstand carbon corrosion. In addition, even when the specific surface area (BET) of the fuel cell catalyst support is increased to 1100 m 2 /g, the durability of the fuel cell catalyst support can be maintained.

As shown in FIG. 2 , the fuel

Acetylene Black Support Additional Heat Treatment Method
In this embodiment, the acetylene
As the number of the
However, if the
Therefore, in order to make the
As an example, by heat-treating the acetylene black support 20 (1900° C., 5 hours), the composition ratio of the
Additional heat treatment acetylene black support activation treatment method
As shown in FIG. 5 , the additional heat-treated acetylene
However, at a temperature of 700° C. to 1100° C., the activation treatment is not sufficiently performed, and it is difficult to increase the specific surface area of the fuel cell catalyst support. However, if the activation treatment temperature is raised to 1100° C. or higher, the composition ratio of the
In order to solve this problem, in this embodiment, as shown in FIG. 6, an additional heat-treated acetylene black support 20' is put in the
In the
The configuration for injecting water vapor and nitrogen into the
Hereinafter, the second step (S12) will be described.
The fuel cell catalyst support prepared in the first step (S11) is placed in a nitric acid solution and treated with nitric acid.
When the fuel cell catalyst support is treated with nitric acid, the crystallinity of the fuel cell catalyst support is somewhat reduced. For this reason, nitrogen atoms supplied from the ammonia gas can be more easily substituted for carbon atoms constituting the fuel cell catalyst support, so that more nitrogen atoms can be introduced into the fuel cell catalyst support. This can be seen from the XRD component analysis result shown in FIG. 8 .
Hereinafter, the third step (S13) will be described.
The nitric acid-treated fuel cell catalyst support is washed with water until the hydrogen ion concentration index (PH) is 6 to 9 tablets. The acid component attached to the nitric acid-treated fuel cell catalyst support is removed by washing with water.
When the nitrate-treated fuel cell catalyst support is washed with water, the nitric acid-treated fuel cell catalyst support is put in a convection oven, and the nitric acid-treated fuel cell catalyst is dried at a drying temperature of 80 to 100° C. and a drying time of 5 to 6 hours. Dry the support completely.
Hereinafter, the fourth step (S14) will be described.
A completely dried, nitric acid-treated fuel
Hereinafter, the fifth step (S15) will be described.
Ammonia gas, which is a nitrogen source, is flowed into the reactor while the temperature inside the reactor is raised to 600 ~ 800 °C. Then, a part of carbon atoms constituting the nitric acid-treated fuel
In this case, the crystallinity of the fuel cell catalyst support is somewhat reduced due to the nitric acid treatment, so that more carbon atoms may be substituted with nitrogen atoms than the fuel cell catalyst support not treated with nitric acid.
In order to confirm this, the components of the fuel cell catalyst support treated with nitrate and the fuel cell catalyst support not treated with nitrate were analyzed and compared by X-ray diffraction method (XRD). As a result, as shown in FIG. 8 , it can be seen that the carbon component of the nitrate-treated fuel cell catalyst support is 91.97%, which is clearly lower than the carbon component of 93.39% of the fuel cell catalyst support that has not been treated with nitric acid.
Therefore, when the present invention is used, the carbon component of the fuel cell catalyst support that can come into contact with oxygen is reduced, so that the carbon corrosion rate of the fuel cell catalyst support can be delayed. For this reason, the carbon corrosion resistance of the fuel
