Abstract

PURPOSE:To efficiently obtain a material to be treated having a high density, by placing the material to be treated and an impregnating substance in a metallic capsule and applying an impregnating pressure through a hot pressure medium to the impregnating substance. CONSTITUTION:A material to be treated is impregnated with an impregnating substance. In the process, the material to be treated and impregnating substance are placed in a metallic capsule and an impregnating pressure is applied through a hot pressure medium to the impregnating substance. Furthermore, heating is required in impregnation. Reasons therefor are as follows. If the impregnating substance contains carbon, the impregnating substance is carbonized. If the impregnating substance is a metal, permeation is facilitated by dissolving the metal. The heating temperature at this time may be freely set depending on the impregnating substance. Typical examples of the impregnating substance include a compact of carbonaceous material and tar pitch. The impregnating substance can be readily impregnated into the material to be treated by a hot hydrostatic pressing method and the aimed material of a high density to be treated is obtained.
