Abstract
PURPOSE: To mass-produce satisfactorily high-reliability glass-coated thermisters with a reduced thermal time constant by dipping the thermister in melted glass for covering of the former with the latter glass.
CONSTITUTION: A pasty mixture of metal oxide fine powder, a binder and a solvent is made to adhere to a pair of platinum wires 2, 2' to form a spherical element l. The platinum wires are disposed in parallel to each other and melta ble with glass. The spherical element, a thermister 10 is preheated by a heater 13 in a crucible 11 to release involved air in the thermister 10. Then, the thermister 10 is lowered to a predetermined depth in the melted glass 15 for dipping thereof, and thereafter lifted gradually. Thereupon, the thermister 10 is reduced in its lifting speed at the position of the heater 13 and forced to pass through the heater 13. Hereby, the thermister 10 is coated with the glass 5 slightly and uniformly therearound without permitting any bubble to remain in the glass 5. Thus, a high-reliability glass-coated thermister with reduced thermal time constant can be satisfactorily mass-produced at a high yield.
