Abstract

PURPOSE:To simplify a joining operation and to reduce the cost of a brazed product by tentatively bonding a joint member, mounting piece, etc., to the prescribed position on the surface of an iron or steel pipe subjected to copper plating to an adequate thickness and subjecting the same to heating and brazing to a prescribed temp. in a furnace. CONSTITUTION:The outside surface of the iron or steel pipe 1 is plated 3 with the copper to about 5-100mum, more preferably 10mum thickness. The joint member 2 is tack welded by spot welding to the prescribed position of the iron or steel pipe 1. The pipe is inserted into the inert atmosphere furnace and is brazed by preheating to about 700 deg.C and heating to about 1,200 deg.C brazing temp. The laborious labor and time needed for the conventional preplaced filler metal method are omitted and the joining operation is simplified, by which the cost of the product is reduced.

Problems to be Solved by the Invention However, with this method, setting the brazing filler metal or paste requires a lot of effort and time, and is troublesome, especially when there are a large number of attached parts to be joined. Furthermore, there is a problem in that the manufacturing cost is high, leading to an increase in the cost of the product.

That is, the present invention provides a method for collectively brazing attached parts such as a joint member and a mounting piece to one steel pipe, in which copper plating is applied to the outer circumferential surface of the pipe in advance;
After that, each of the attached parts is temporarily attached on the plated layer, and then carried into a furnace and heated to a predetermined temperature to perform in-furnace brazing. The gist is a method for bulk brazing parts.

If the thickness of the copper plating layer is less than about 2 .mu.m, there will be insufficient brazing material and sufficient bonding strength will not be obtained, whereas if it exceeds 200 .mu.m, there will be an excess of brazing material, which is uneconomical. Therefore, it is necessary to set the thickness within the range of 2 to 200 μm, and preferably within the range of 5 to 100 μm. A particularly suitable thickness is about 10 μm.

Effects of the Invention The method for brazing steel pipes according to the present invention, when brazing a plurality of steel fittings such as joint members and mounting pieces to one steel pipe at once, copper plating is applied to the pipe in advance. After that, the attached parts are temporarily attached on the plated layer, and then the parts are carried into a furnace and heated to a predetermined temperature to perform furnace brazing. It is possible to omit the troublesome and time-consuming work of placing brazing filler metal for each attached part as in the method described above, and it is possible to significantly simplify the joining work, and in turn, it is possible to manufacture products by joining both parts. The manufacturing cost can be reduced.
