Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a red phosphor which exhibits high brightness and is useful as a fluorescent membrane material for fluorescent lamps, by substituting at least one member selected from Y, Sc, La and Gd for part of indium in a trivalent europium-activated indium borate phosphor.
CONSTITUTION: Predetermined amounts of starting materials such as indium oxide, boron oxide, europium oxide, yttrium oxide, scandium oxide, lanthanum oxide and gadolinium oxide are weighed, mixed together, and calcined in air at 1,000W 1,400°C for 1W5hr. Then the calcined product is cooled, washed with water, filtered off, dried and screened to obtain the desired red phosphor having the formula wherein 0.005≤x≤0.3; 0<y≤0.6; A is Y, Sc, La or Gd.
