Abstract

PURPOSE:To simplify the manufacturing process and also to lower the price of a surface discharge type gas discharge panel, by burning both a photoresist layer and a sealing material at the same time at a fixed temperature; said photoresist layer being formed by a photographic exposure method on the surface of a cover plate, and said sealing member material being printed by a printing method in a region corresponding to sealing after forming said photoresist layer. CONSTITUTION:The photoresist layer 8' which is mixed with a phospher material is formed on the surface of the cover glass 2 made of transparent glass, and the layer 8'' is then subjected to exposure and development through photographic exposing process after heat-treatment to form the photoresist layer 8' of a fixed pattern. Next, the sealing member material 4a is printed by the printing method, on the region corresponding to sealing on the cover glass 2, using a glass having a low melting point as a frit material. Afterward, the photoresist layer 8 which is formed on the surface of the cover plate 2 and the sealing member material 4a are burnt at the same time, for instance, at 450 deg.C, for an hour or so. In this way, the manufacturing process can be simplified by only one burning process and thereby the price of the panel can be lowered.
