Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a storage type display device of good contrast by forming transparent electrodes of prescribed patterns and shield layers on transparent substrates, then forming negative type photosensitive resin films over the entire surface of the substrates and colored films on said films then exposing and developing these from the rear surface side of the substrates. CONSTITUTION:In the production of electrode substrates for X-Y matrix display liquid crystal display elements, transparent electrodes 22 of prescribed patterns are formed on a glass substrate 21, after which a shielded film 23 is formed over the entire surface by a vapor deposition method of Al or the like. Next, this is etched to leave the film 23' only on the electrodes 22, after which a negative type photosensitive resin film 24 of cyclized rubber or the like is coated and a colored film 25 of Cr of the like is formed thereon. Next, ultraviolet rays 26 are irradiated from the rear side of the substrate 21, after which the films 24, 25 of the nonirradiated parts are lifted off, thereby leaving insulation characteristic projecting parts 24' between the electrodes 22 and colored films 25' thereon. Thence, in some cases, the film 23' is removed by using an aqueous alkali soln. and this completes the electrode substrate. A film 25' is formed on this electrode substrate and an oriented film on the electrodes 22, whereby the sharp display causing no turbidity around the display segments is obtained.
