Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain an excellent electrode by using a small quantity of platinum, by applying a solution of platinum salts and platinum complex compounds to a prescribed position of sintered body procelain and forming a platinum film layer on the surface of said procelain by heat treatment, then, carrying out the heat treatment after platinum on said layer chemically. CONSTITUTION:An aqueous solution or 2-butanol solution (1g/5-20ml platinum compound) of a platinum compound such as chloroplatinic acid, platinum nitrate etc. is applied on both faces of a porous sintered body porecelain 11 made of zirconia or titanium oxide etc. and it is heat-treated at 550-900 deg.C. Next, electrodes 12, 13 are formed by heat-treating in air at about 1,000 deg.C after forming thin platinum films 12, 13 on the surface of the porcelain 11 by chemical plating. Next, electrically conductive metal housings 14, 15 are connected with each electrode 12, 13 and the housings 15 and 16 are separated electrically by an insulating porcelain board 14 at this time. Thus, the accurate O2 concentration is measured by bringing gaseous O2 having different partial pressure into contact with both sides of the porcelain 11 and measuring electromotive force generated between partition walls. Said electrode is prepared by a simple preparation than usual and a small quantity of use of platinum.
