Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a high quality optical fiber having a resin coat of uniform thickness by putting a nozzle which can be moved freely according to the passing position of an optical fiber in a through hole made in the bottom of a vessel for a coating resin.
CONSTITUTION: A finely adjusting table 14 movable slightly in the horizontal direction and provided with a holder 13 holding a vessel 31 for a coating resin at the center is set on a support table 11 fixed to a support section. The vessel 31 having a through hole 32 at the bottom is mounted on the holder 13, and a nozzle 33 having an insertion hole 36 is movably put in the hloe 32. An optical fiber 12 is inserted in the hole 36 of the nozzle 33, and after adjusting the fiber pulling line of the vessel 31 with the table 14, the vessel 31 is filled with a coating material 17 to coat the fiber 12 with the resin. By the spinning tension of the fiber and the centripetal force of the resin soln. produced by the passage of the fiber, the nozzle is automatically noved and adjusted to a positional relation passing the fiber through the center, and a uniform resin coat can be formed stably.
