Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance the productivity of an inorg. fiber with a high-speed flow of air and to make the fiber longer by continuously spinning an inorg. fiber while applying tension due to a high-speed flow of air to a solidified fiber part led into a strand leading pipe and an accelerating pipe.
CONSTITUTION: When the nozzle 3 of a nozzle plate 2 set at the bottom of a furnace 1 for melting glass as starting material is moved to stored molten glass, molten glass flows down from the nozzle 3 by gravity in the form of a stand. High pressure air is spouted from a high-pressure air chamber 10 through an inverted truncated conical slit 11, and it converges on the center of an accelerating pipe 14 to apply downward tension to a solidified glass fiber led into the pipe 14. At the same time, an ejector effect is caused to a string leading pipe 4 to produce negative pressure, so a high-speed flow of air is also formed in the pipe 4. When the pipe 14 is excessively short, the tensile effect on the solidified glass fiber is reduced, and an excessively long pipe has increased pipe resistance. Accordingly, it is required to regulate the length of the pipe 14 to a proper value.
