Abstract

PURPOSE: A fiber having a specific optical birefringence, crystallinity and tensile elongation is subjected to locally stretching heat treatment under a tension to produce the titled fiber with high tenacity, elasticity and low shrinkage.
CONSTITUTION: A polyester fiber having more than 80×10-3, preferably more than 150×10-3 optical birefringence, higher than 30, preferably higher than 35% crystallinity and less than 70%, preferably less than 50% tensile elongation is stretched with a certain tension W(kg/mm2) and subjected to locally stretching heat treatment at a temperature T(°C) in the range from the crystallization temperature to the melting point. The temperature T is preferably adjusted to in the range from 40° higher than the crystallization point to 10°C lower than the melting point.
