Abstract

PURPOSE: Melt extruded polyvinylidene fluoride is passed through a high-temperature atmosphere, cooled and drawn to produce uniform and high-quality fibers independently from the molecular weight.
CONSTITUTION: A polyvinylidene fluoride resin of 0.6dl/g or higher inherent viscosity is melt spun at 230W340°C and passed through a space that ranges from 2W50cm, preferably from 3W30cm beneath the spinneret surface and is kept at 200W500°C, preferably 280W400°C for 0.1W10sec, preferably 0.3W4sec, the cooled and drawn. The resulting undrawn yarn has an optical birefringence of over 3.0× 10-3, whose fluctuation reduces by 50% or more percentage. The drawing temperature is preferably 100W170°C and the resulting fiber has 7.2g/dn or higher tensile strength and 4.0g/dn or higher knot strength.
