Abstract

PURPOSE:To record signals with a high density at a room temperature reversibly by constituting a storage element with a liquid crystal part, a photoconductor part brought into contact with this liquid crystal part, and a pair of electrode parts with these parts interposed. CONSTITUTION:A storage element consists of a liquid crystal layer 4, a photoconductor layer 5 brought into contact with the liquid crystal layer 4, and a pair of transparent electrodes 3 having the liquid crystal layer 4 and the photoconductor layer 5 interposed in between. When a voltage is applied across transparent electrodes 3 interposed between glass substrates 1, resistances of the photoconductor layer 5 and the liquid crystal layer 4 are equal to each other approximately in darkness and the liquid crystal layer is transparent, and laser beam stopped by a lens is irradiated from the write side to the photoconductor layer 5 under this state to generate an array-shaped binary signal, namely, transparent and cloudy states. Thus, the storage element is obtained where the signal is recorded reversibly at a room temperature with a high density.
