Abstract

PURPOSE:To produce an element having a large image screen and large capacity by using a ferroelectric high-polymer liquid crystal as a liquid crystal. CONSTITUTION:A transparent electrode 12 consisting of a tin oxide film, indium oxide film, etc., is provided on an upper transparent substrate 11 consisting glass, plastic, etc., and a photoconductive film 13 consisting of cadmium sulfide, etc., is formed to this transparent electrode 12. A power supply 18 is connected between the two transparent electrodes 12 and 15 in such a manner that a (+) voltage is impressed to the electrode 12 on the photoconductive film 13 side. While this voltage is held impressed, light 20 of a wavelength lambda1 to which the photoconductive film 13 is sensitive is projected thereto. A helium-neon laser, argon laser, etc., are used for the light 20. The inversion of the liquid crystal molecules, therefore, takes place and the writing of information is executed when the electric resistance of the photoconductive film 13 decreases and the voltage is impressed to the liquid crystal 14. The information memory body having the large area and large capacity is thereby formed.
