Abstract
PURPOSE:To produce a porous and amorphous metallic tape whose specific surface area is large, at a low cost, by forming a liquid film on the outside circumferential surface of a cooling roll with water, etc., and contacting a molten alloy to this liquid film. CONSTITUTION:A nozzle hole 3 on the bottom part of a crucible 1 is blocked by a stopper 7, and an alloy which can be made amorphous, charged in the crucible 1 is heated and melted by a high frequency induction coil 6 under an argon gas atmosphere. Subsequently, a liquid film 10 is formed on the surface of a roll 8, holding the cooling roll 8 to a prescribed rotational frequency, and continuously making water or incombustible liquid-gas flow down by a proper quantity on the surface of the cooling roll 8 from a nozzle 9. At the same time, the stopper 7 is drawn up and a molten alloy 2 is made to flow down onto the surface of the roll 8 through the liquid film 10. As a result, the liquid film 10 evaporates explosively in a moment, innumerable fine air bubbles are formed in the molten metal 2, are suddenly cooled and frozen by the cooling roll 8, are made amorphous, and a porous and amorphous metallic tape 11 is produced continuously.
