Abstract
PURPOSE:To inspect heat transfer pipes accurately by a method wherein the level of a secondary cooling liquid in an inlet pipe and an outlet pipe is kept constant and the leaking of sodium is detected by the variation of the level of the secondary cooling liquid in the inlet pipe. CONSTITUTION:The secondary cooling liquid which is present in the heat exchanger 1 is in an upper chamber 15, the inlet pipe 4, a part of the outlet pipe 5, the heat transfer pipes 9 and a lower chamber 16. Accordingly, when pressure is applied on the upper chamber 15 so that the pressure in the chamber 15 becomes higher than that of a primary cooling liquid, the secondary cooling liquid would flow into the primary cooling liquid if the heat transfer pipes 9 were damaged due to crackings or pinholes. Consequently, it is possible to ascertain whether or not any of the heat transfer pipes 9 is damaged, by detecting the level 36 of the secondary cooling liquid in the inlet pipe 4 and to inspect the pipes 9 accurately.
