Those openings are for measuring leakage that is the same as the sum of the volume of leakage from those two places and the total volume of leakage from a vent hole 9. With this arrangement it is possible to check leakage for sure from the slip joint in the ordinary operation, and it becomes possible to take measures for drop in the plant efficiency and large leakage, so that the maintanence of the piping in the furnace can be carried out for sure.
