Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide steel having high tensile strength and excellent fatigue strength in seawater by using composition including Cr, Ni, C, Si, Mn, Mo, etc., and having controlled equivalent ratio of Cr/Ni.
CONSTITUTION: A stainless steel consists in wt% of C: less than 0.06%, Si: 0.2W 1%, Mn: 0.5W2%, P: less than 0.03%, S: less than 0.03%, Cr: 14W17%, Ni: 4W7%, Mo: 0.5W2%, and the remaining Fe, and has an equivalent ratio of Cr/ Ni=(Cr%+Mo%+1.5×Si%)/(Ni%+30×C%+0.5×Mn%)=2.7. The steel of this composition invariably provides stable structure in which small amount of ferrite is finely distributed in martensite base and thus enhances corrosion fatigue strength in seawater.
