Abstract
PURPOSE:To maintain a good shape and prevent the degradation in toughness by cooling a large-diameter steel pipe at cooling rate below specific rates from tempering temp. down to 600 deg.C, and another specific cooling rate down to 600-400 deg.C, and quickly cooling the same down to ordinary temp. CONSTITUTION:In the case of cooling a large-diameter steel pipe having been subjected to hardening and tempering after tempering, it is cooled at <=2 deg.C/sec. cooling rate from the tempering temp. down to 600 deg.C and 0.4-40 deg.C/sec. cooling rate from 600 down to 400 deg.C, and is quickly cooled from 400 deg.C down to ordinary temp. A goog shape is maintained by the cooling in this manner; in addition, the degradation in toughness owing to temper brittleness is prevented.
