Abstract
Steel rods, particularly for the reinforcement of concrete, are quenched from the hot-rolling temperature into a liquid having a temperature between 50 DEG C. and 100 DEG C., and are subsequenly hardened by cold-working. The steel is preferably quenched into liquid at above 60 DEG C. and allowed to cool to the bath temperature; alternatively it may be removed before it reaches the bath temperature and cooled in air. Quenching may be carried out while or after the rod is reeled into rings. Steels containing up to 1% of carbon and up to 2% each of nickel, chromium, cobalt, manganese and silicon may be treated.
