Abstract

1467835 Processing low-alloy steel USS ENGS & CONSULTANTS Inc 31 May 1974 [31 May 1973] 24234/74 Heading C7A Steel containing in percentage by weight: together with optionally small amounts of Cu, Cr, or Ni is austenitized to dissolve all carbides and nitrides, followed by hot working above Ar3 to effect not more than 90% of the total working required. It is then cooled into the Ar 3 -Ar 1 range, and subjected to a further 10-40% reduction, thus being carried out preferably at not less than 25‹F below Ar 3 . The steel may finally be tempered at 1100-1250‹F for 1 to 120 minutes. After cooling to ambient temperature the steel may be formed into welded pipe by conventional processes.
