Abstract

PURPOSE: To let a conductive metal powder adsorb reduced trivalent chromium by a method wherein the conductive metal powder is filled in the cathode side of an electrolytic bath and a chromium-containing waste liquid is charged in the cathode side for treatment while electric current is passing.
CONSTITUTION: The conductive metal powder 6 such as iron or aluminum is filled in the cathode side 1 of the electrolytic bath. While electric current is passing across the cathode and anode sides, a chromium-containing waste liquid such as chromium plating solution is continuously charged in the cathode side. This causes hexavalent chromium in the waste liquid to be electrolyzed and reduced to trivalent chromium, which is adsorbed by the conductive metal powder 6. The process thus allows an easy and cheap continuous treatment of high-concentration, chromium-containing waste liquid, also permitting reutilization of formed sludge.
