Abstract

PURPOSE: To make possible casting of a continuously cast ingot free from any surface blow hole defects by using a deoxidative front flux mixed with the specific amount of fine powdery Al at the time of charging the front flux at the starting of continuous casting.
CONSTITUTION: At the time of producing a continuously cast ingot by pouring molten steel to a continuously casting mold, a deoxidative front flux mixed with 3W 15% fine powdery Al is beforehand added in the mold prior to casting, and molten steel is poured thereon through a tundish. A large amount of O2 is contained in the first molten steel to be poured from the tundish and since the evolution of this as blow holes in the ingot is considerably decreased by the oxidation of Al, the production of rejects owing to the evolution of blow holes and the decrease in the yield of the ingot are prevented.
