Abstract

PURPOSE: To make the casting plan to be easily formulated, by separately preparing the reactor vessel for the graphite spheroidizing agent, and the holding cavity for this reactor vessel, the product cavity, and the mold provided with the down gate and cross gate, and by using these parts in combination.
CONSTITUTION: The reactor vessel 10, for holding the Mg-type graphite spheroidizing agent 14 like as Fe-Si-Mg alloy, etc., is previously prepared depending on the shell mold process which makes strong the mold,or the cold box process. On the other hand, the vertical type single split molds 2, 3, provided with the down gate 5, cross gate 6, cavity 11 for holding the reactor vessel 10, weir 8, cavity 9 for casting the product, are separately prepared. The graphite spheroidizing agent of approximately 1% of amount of the molten metal to be poured is charged into the reactor vessel 10, which is then placed within the cavity 11 of the molds 2, 3; and then, two molds 2, 3, are combined. The molten cast iron is poured from the down gate 5 so as to react on the graphite spheroidizing agent 14; and then, the nodular graphite cast iron is cast in the product cavity 9. Since the reactor vessel 10 for the graphite spheroidizing agent is separately prepared, the formulation of casting plan concerning the molds becomes very easy, and the quality degradation due to the fading phenomenon can be prevented.
