Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the quality at joining face and each layer of an ingot having double layers by blowing non-oxidizing gaseous medium on surface of the molten steel in a mold to form two directional solidified ingot and next, pouring and solidifying different kind of molten steel from upper part. CONSTITUTION:While supplying the non-oxidizing gaseous medium of Ar, etc., from a nozzle 13 connecting with a piping for coolant, the molten steel 2a is beforehand poured into the mold 8. Then, the molten steel 2a is cooled at the same time from the bottom face and the upper face to start up the two directional solidification. Next, the molten steel 2b having another chemical composition is poured on the lower layer ingot 2a from another ladle 1b to uni-directionally solidify. As the lower ingot 2a is solidified at two direction, segregation of chemical composition and accumulation of inclusion is prevented at the joining face between the upper layer and the lower layer. By this method, the quality at the joining face and each layer of the ingot having double layers is improved.
